It sounds like Deonte lost his mother this morning. I can't even imagine what that feels like. With all the talk of the team as a family, I really hope he has that support around him now.

Awesome picture Skatastrophy. Thanks for posting it here. The heart of a wonderful mother shows through. Even for as outstanding a young man as Deonte is, such a loss can only be devastating. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Burton family.

For anyone, the death of a parent stymies you. For anyone under 30, the death of a parent can be traumatic. For anyone in University, the death of a parent can be bewildering. I'm happy that we have a coach and staff in place that will put the human nature of this event in perspective for Deonte.

One of the reasons he transferred back from Brewster is because she was diagnosed with cancer.

In reading the message Deonte posted with that picture he shows a maturity that I don't know if I would be able to show in his situation and I am twice his age. You raised a good strong man Mrs Burton. Rest easy.

Thoughts and prayers to Deonte. I'm thinking his mom may have had breast cancer since there are several videos of Deonte hooping in pink sneakers. Hopefully Jamil Wilson can contact Deonte and help him through this tough situation. I believe Jamil also lost his mother to breast cancer.
