I mean you might want to tip a few back more often to lighten up a bit.

What a SHOT!!! Wished he wouldve looked to Wisky bench and given them the ole Discount Double Check right back.
Actually I enjoyed seeing SC advance also If we couldnt beat em I'd like the excuse of at least we lost to an Elite 8er

Especially, since my nemesis at work normally goes to bed at 7. Knowing he had to stay up for the overtime just made it sweeter.

What??? That was amazing!!! Drink up, a depressing era in the MU/UW rivalry just ended!!!! This cannot be uderstated!

One of the best badger-hate reasons I've ever seen.

I can taste the tears of the latest group of UW seniors I've grown to despise. And Vito Brown, he was ok.
Can they please just crap out next year, for once?

No Mo' big10? teams, right?

I had to do it...

Buzz kind of tore Wisconsin's defense apart in the post game show. I agreed with everything. Why is Hayes on the ball and not one of the guards? Who is Trice guarding? What is Happ doing, by the basket with a second left (guy isn't going to be able to pass it and lay it in at that point)?
Who cares though, ha

Ehh. Trice is trying to catch up with Barry, who inbounded the ball and looped around the ball handler just like Jenkins did in the National Title game last year. How early would Happ have to have left his man in the paint to be able to get out to contest the jump shot? Probably too early to not give up a wide open dunk to tie the game. The Hayes being on a smaller guy is the only real question. Probably wanted somebody bigger to be able to contest the shot and Koenig was "hurt."
-
PS the Gators are awesome.
-
Buzz is pretty much right on all of his comments. The guy got the inbounds with momentum and never had to go sideways even a little bit.
Lots of talk afterwards that Hayes should have missed the second FT on purpose. I wasn't thinking it at the time, but it probably would have been a good strategy.

Agreed. Would have ate 2 seconds off the clock and they still would be shooting the 3 to win.

Saving this watch on a loop!
-
Didn't watch the game, woke up this morning, read the score and screamed "Yes, Thank you Florida" at the top of my lungs waking up the rest of the family.
I don't ussually like the negative Karma in relishing in another teams misery, but it is awesome to see the rodents lose in horrific fashion. Not only that, if they win that game, they have a pretty clear path to the championship game. It is cold and rainy today, but what a beautiful day.
-
We are all Chiozza-heads this morning.
-
Of all the times in this game that Hayes actually makes both free throws... What a crappy time!
That was an awesome end to a game that I was sure Wisco would finish off in OT.
-
Later Felicia Hayes!!!
-
Wonderful way to enjoy my first sip of coffee.
-
Badgers and Daddy Ball both out of the tournament the same night. I can watch sports again!!!

Yup! Now I'm just rooting for X and SC.

THREE guys in red inside the 3 point line watching him get that shot off cleanly. Hayes on the guard. Who cares if they get a wide open layup. 2 points and they're playing 2OT, not going home. Couldn't have been a worse defensive set up.

I don't know. From my stand point, I wish they always played D like that sooo from an outsiders perspective, it looked like great D and hope they play that way for years to come. 8-)

Another beautiful thought: We will all be seeing that clip for years to come...like the Tyus Edney or James Forrest plays.

Who cares? Wisky was up 2 with 4 seconds remaining in OT and you are suggesting they concede a wide open layup and go to 2OT?
Have you ever seen a team do this ever???
It was poor D with a questionable approach for sure, but what you are suggesting is ridiculous.

Well I certainly wouldn't put a forward on a PG who then blows past the forward and gets a clean look at 3 while 3 other defenders are flat footed inside the 3 point line
-
At this point, it really doesn't matter whether Hayes should have missed the second FT, whether UW@Madison should have defended it differently, or whether UF was just plain lucky.
The only things that matter are that we got to see sad rodent faces, and the Big 14's seventeen year championship drought continues....
-
Gators defense at the end of regulation was also suspect.
If you're up 3, all 5 guys need to defend the 3pt line. Concede the layup.

The only problem with it was they didn't foul. Otherwise they did exactly what you said. Showalter made an absolute prayer of a shot that had no business going in. If you are playing straight up D, you couldn't have defended the 3 any better. He took a one foot runner from 3.

The last 5 minutes of regulation and most of OT were extremely poorly coached on Florida's end.

Nor would I--which was why I stated it was certainly a questionable approach.
Doesn't mean that the only other option is to allow an uncontested layup.

I'm guessing Florida fans are still holding out their excitement until 1 more win. After all, they got bounced early in the real tournament - the SEC Tournament.
As you said earlier this month, conference tournament championships are greater than Elite 8's.

They are, but keeping Wisconsin from competing for a national championship is what matters here, since as I said, that's bigger than a conference championship.

I came here to ask why Florida stopped playing offense for the last 2 minutes of regulation, especially their last two possessions when their lead was clearly slipping away. It was very frustrating to watch.

Yep - in the game thread, I asked why Florida stopped playing after 37 minutes...

The thing I respect, is that Florida's coach admitted this in the postgame, and gave his players credit for essentially saving his hide.

Brew, you are more into this than I am, but will UW be competitive next season as they lose 4(?) seniors? Living here on the east coast I'm insulated from all the animus each side has for the other, but back in 2003 when we beat UK it seemed that the entire state was rooting for MU after Wisconsin lost in the same regional. Have thing got really that bad?
-
As the thread title says, I love Florida, too.
But I will admit that I was not loving the Gators as they pissed away their lead by playing prevent offense. When Showalter's shot went in, I cussed so loudly that my poor pup ran for cover under my desk in the room next door! I'm not proud of that.
And then I was in a freakin' ornery mood the entire OT, as Wiscy outplayed Fla badly even though Koenig was a non-factor.
And then came Chiozza's shot ... and all was right with the world!
I brushed my teeth, climbed into bed, and fell asleep almost immediately. And no doubt, with a big smile on my face!

Since most "Badger fans" didn't actually attend UW, they are flexible when a bandwagon comes along.

I'm not ready to write UW off just yet. They lost 3 senior starters in 2013 and went to back-to-back Final Fours in 2014 and 2015. They lost 3 senior starters and a junior that went in the first round of the NBA draft in 2015 and went to back-to-back Sweet 16s. Next year they return a second-team All-American in Happ and both Trice and Iverson played significant minutes this year. They also bring in redshirt freshman Aleem Ford, who everyone is reportedly very high on as well as a couple of true freshmen in Reuvers and King that could be immediate contributors. They may take a step back, but until proven otherwise, I think they'll still be good.
In 2003, having successful in-state programs was somewhat of a novelty. The Bo Ryan era served to make Badger fans more and more intolerable by the year, and comments from the Dekkers, Kaminskys, Koenigs, and Hayes of the world have only made it worse. Sure, the bandwagon fans would likely come back, but the diehard, vocal Wisconsin fans are about as arrogant, entitled, and condescending as you will find in sports. Especially for a fanbase and program that has done very little to be arrogant or entitled.
