I can't say our cheerleaders are much better, but the dance was quite ridiculous.

I didn't notice the band, but I think I am going to focus on how much I despise Robin Lopez.  He has to be one of more immature players in college basketball after his antics.  Too bad he has less talent than everyone in our starting lineup except Ouse.

Why does the tree mascot have a skull and cross bones on it?

A better question may be why are they a tree?

The Stanford Tree makes his/her own Tree every year, so s/he can put whatever they want on it.  The band can dress however they want as well.  The short history of the tree is that Stanford was previously named the Indians, and changed its name to the Cardinal (the color, not the bird) in the 70s.  The administration had difficulty figuring out a mascot for a color (sound familiar?) and the band had halftime skits to determine a new mascot and the tree stuck.

Dumb.  Thank God we avoided that route.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it is my understanding that the band is not sponsored by the University.  It is a "club" because of the outrageous actions they do.  The band has been banned from performing at certain universities.  Here are two articles:

The thing with their band is a tradition to be counter-cultural, an anti-band compared to the cliched Big Televen bands... theirs is known for zany antics and jokes at halftime football games... so they make their own individualistic "unfiorms" and have strange nonuniform formations. I guess it carries over to their mascot and cheer squad.

I in no way think the eagle is the best mascot in the country (Sparty by far) but I'd like to hear why it is the most embarassing?

Stanford's cheerleaders weren't the most attractive, but they were clearly better looking than ours - its just that their antics were goofy.  That said neither of them came close to the Texas girls or ucla girls.  The halftime shows by them were . . .pure. . . sex.  Wow.  Best moment of then night since we lost.

No hating on the Stanford dance team, but lots of hate on the tree.

When Trent was T'd up and thrown out, the tree dude ran around the Stanford  dance team (at center court) and stuck his butt out at the standing refs and shook it. Then he came around and pretended to kick them. Sure, he was acting out the Stanford sentiment at the time, but c'mon.

Maybe our Eagle should have grown some balls and punked him like Aski, the Golden Bear:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/qNMhCVjU6Fg&amp;hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/qNMhCVjU6Fg&amp;hl=en</a>

But golly gee...that UCLA dance team was something to look at! Dancing in basketball jerseys never looked hotter! That's something MU needs to work on. ;)

Note: Last year's team...couldn't find a picture of this year's team in action... :(

But here's what this year's team looks like - without the bkb jerseys. :(

Supposedly this one, I think she's in the back row on the left of the team picture:

If Love is dating her, it's just more proof that a big time athlete can always get a hot girl. Because he looks like a large caveman.

unlucky?  what, is she too ugly for you? or do you only go for blonde pompom-wielding airheads?

sorry, nothing against cheerleaders, really--i mean our own George W. was one, right?

Annyway... as a fellow (though former) MU band member, whenever i looked at Stanford's "band" i felt like I should either be in TGIFriday's or as though I were watching Jennifer Aniston in Office Space-- what was up with all that flair??!  Weirdos.  Thank god MU band is mostly normal, comparatively speaking.
