Great news for NFL fans everywhere
« on: April 16, 2009, 11:08:38 AM »
The NFL's premier blowhole, John Madden has announced his retirement.

Now if ESPN will do something about their dreadful Monday Night team, and get rid of Chris Berman at the same time, things would really be looking up.

Finally someone who speaks up about Chris Berman.  Man, his act is really getting tiresome and I can't stand him anymore.  Thinks his sh...t does not stink and his cliques are boring to say the least.  Time for a change with him and that other idiot Stuart Scott.

Getting tiresome? I have been railing about Berman for a good 5 years now. His act has been played for at least that long. I have no idea why they keep him around. Good point on Stuart Scott, too. Frankly, they could do away with most of that whole crew and it would be fine with me.

What timing! Now that Brett has finally (maybe?) retired, John follows suit. As for his constant Brett references and Captain Obvious statements, may they rest in peace.

Apparently I'm in the minority, but I liked Madden. Berman, on the other hand, can sit on it and rotate.

Madden on CBS in the 80s was revolutionary and groundbreaking.  My childhood is filled of memories of him announcing the big game of the week.

Madden on Fox in the 90s he started to become a parody of himself.  It got really bad when he was at ABC/ESPN.  He was more about him being Madden than it was being a good announcer.

I thought the last two years at NBC he made a comeback.  He became better at simply commenting on the game and cut down on the schtick.  That is why I wonder if it were the Fox and ESPN producers that were responsible for him becomming the gasbag he became.  Just like Berman is now.

Well see when you got great players playing great football.. well then thats just great football...

When Brett Favre retired, John Madden saw no more opportunities in the booth, so he hung up his microphone.  That and now they can go into the same hall of fame class, which will just be a riot at Canton.

Madden was elected in to Canton a couple of years ago.

I had high hopes for Gruden, but listening to this Monday night team for the first time, I see he has bought right into the hyperbolic ESPN BS. It appears they may have unplugged Jaworski's mic as well.

Did you notice how often he uses his hands while providing "analysis"

It honestly looks like he's being attacked by a swarm of bees

Gruden was balls deep on Favre the entire game. Ridiculous.

That guy, John Gruden seems to get worse every week.

How does MNF do it? They manage to downgrade their announce team every year.

ESPN.  Seriously for as much as I love what they do for college football and basketball, they really have overhyped MNF into the ground.

He adds nothing, well except maybe more idle chit chat, which is unbelievable for a guy that is supposed to be all about football.

I love how when they show the three of them in the both and talk about whatever, Gruden always reaches him arm(s) out while talking. Its like he is trying to reach for the point he is trying to make, but never gets there.
