Title: Least Favorite and Favorite Non-MU Big East Players Since MU Joined the BE
Post by: wadesworld on March 12, 2015, 10:24:06 AM
An interesting discussion came up in the Gameday Chat last night regarding players that people hated and players on teams other than Marquette that people liked since Marquette joined the Big East.  Who were some of your favorite and least favorite BE players outside of Marquette's program?

I always hated playing against Lavance Fields and DuJuan Blair simply because they were a dang good, tough Pitt team.  Hated Devensdorf, hate Delgado and Whitehead, don't like D'Angelo Harrison.  Hated Fab Melo and Cooney.

Others brought up were (obviously) Harrongody, Cooley, Connaughton.  There were others.

Nova seemed to be well represented on the list of favorites.

I also always hated Jerry Smith.  Tosa East to Louisville.  Yuck.

I liked Blair, and don't really feel anything either way for the Seton Hall guys. Agreed on the rest. I'd add Trawick from Georgetown on there. I also had an irrational hate for Creighton's team last year. Probably because they reminded me of UW.

Always liked Nova's guys. Really like Roosevelt Jones at Butler. Liked Cotton and Henton from PC.

This.  The "trailer trash" chants at the BC were spot on.

Devendorf and Harangody were on a whole 'nother level than all the others.  I miss having opponents to hate.  Nobody really bad out there right now.

wasn't Jamar Nutter the player from Seton Hall that was ejected from a couple MU games?
once for an elbow to Dominic James throat and ironically I think he was tossed once for punching DJO in the groin.
Under Gonzalez, Seton Hall had it's share of unlikeable players.

I was never a big fan of McBuckets until I watched him play in-person. That guy worked his A$$ off. He was in non-stop motion.

Easily my least favorite player. Can't stand McFlopper. Other then him I didn't like Cooley either but that's more because of his actions in high school.

For some reason I always liked CJ Fair. Couldn't tell you why though.

I always hated how Kemba could jump into the defender, throw up a wild shot, get the call, steal your girlfriend, and make the deuce every time...Great player though.

+1

It's obviously not translating to the next level (yet), but McD has an incredible sense of floor space and always moved with a purpose.

I know the Larry Bird stuff was overplayed because he was white, but he did remind me of Larry in that way. Larry was never physically quick, but was super efficient in his movement, especially off of the ball.

I don't get the Arcidiacono love either (except that he's a scrappy white guy). He was the Co-POY this season even though he was basically the same player as last season when he was Hon Mention All-BE.

I could never stand Bob Huggins.  Between all of the rough, bush-league players he had, the academic issues that always faced the team, and the numerous arrests and suspensions of players in Cincinnati, he ran a program that could not be respected.  I was less than thrilled when West Virginia hired him away from K-State.  Anyone remember Donald Little, his former Cincy center who tortured and kidnapped his roommate???   ::)

So many players come to mind.  Just reminds me of what a battle the BE tournament used to be.  We would go in ranked something like #20 in the country and be the 6th seed in the tournament.

Also punched a horse. Never mind, that was Art Long.

A little refresher on all the a-holes Cinci produced.

Add Sean Kilpatrick to the like list for me. HATED Mike Marra but only because he killed us in the BET in 2011.

Back to the beginning of MU's tenure in the BE...Really liked Mike Gansey and hated Kevin Pitsnogle. Liked Carl Krauser, Fields and Sam Young. I liked Quincy Douby, carried a bad Rutgers team to some wins. Taequan Dean was fun.

Was surprised to see that Rudy Gay played in the BE in 05-06. Thought he was older than that.

Agreed....Kilpatrick was a stud. I remembeR him singlehandedly killing us a couple years back.

I hated Stanley Robinson (UCONN) and his over-emphatic dunks on our more undersized teams. I'd really like to punch that guy in the head.

I liked Marshon Brooks of Providence.  I watched the game when he blew up for 50 and it was unreal.  He drilled contested shots all night from every spot on the floor.

Hate:

I'll pick Bobby Huggins to cover the Cincinnati thugs .....but there were some great games over the years.

Uwe Blab, Indiana. He was a stiff out of effingham, Illinois. Maybe Bob Knights best coaching example. One of the most disappointing losses to remember from Sr. year.

Mark Aguire, DePaul. Big butt. big crybaby

He's like the fourth best player on Nova I don't understand Arcidiacano love or voting for him. But I don't hate the guy per se, just the way people talk about him. He's got a little Aaron Craft aura about him for some reason.

But I hated, in descending order: Harangody, Devendorf, Aaron Gray, Hansborough, Connaughton, Cooley, Thabeet, Dominique Jones, uh, probably many more I'm forgetting.

I like Obekpa, Mcdermot, Kilpatrick, Hibbert, plenty of others.

Teams i liked: Nova, Georgetown

Eh: Uconn, Providence, St. Johns, Cincinnatti

Teams not good enough to think much about: Rutgers, Seton Hall, Depaul, South Florida

unnatural carnal knowledge 'em: Pitt, Cuse, Louisville, Notre Dame, West Virginia

Jerry Smith

Most of my hates have been listed.  But Pat Connaughton rose up to the top of the list.  Pizza faced cocky douchebag who his some absolute garbage shots.  Add announcers fawning over him, and it was a perfect storm.  I remember hating Luke Hancock with every fiber of my being in 2013, especially as he torched us.  But I really enjoyed him during their run in the tournament.
