Title: Rothstein 7/11 BE Predictions
Post by: GoldenWarrior11 on July 11, 2016, 05:03:59 PM
Jon Rothstein had some Big East predictions on his Twitter earlier today.  Below is what he posted.

Big East Preseason Power Rankings: Villanova, Xavier, Creighton, Seton Hall, Georgetown, St. John's, Butler, Marquette, Providence, DePaul.

Big East Preseason First-Team: Kelan Martin (Butler), Josh Hart (Nova), Trevon Bluiett (Xavier), Kris Jenkins (Nova), Angel Delgado (SHU).

Big East Preseason Player of the Year: Josh Hart, Villanova.

Big East Preseason Sleeper: Georgetown.

10 Impact BE Freshmen: O. Spellman (Nova), S. Ponds (SJU), M. LoVett (SJU), M. Powell (SHU), Q. Goodin (X), T. Jones (X), M. Howard (MU), S. Hauser (MU), A. Diallo (PC), J. Brunk (Butler).

5 Under-The-Radar Big East Freshmen: J. Patton (Creighton), M. White (PC), J. Mosley (Georgetown), R. Freudenberg (SJU), K. Baldwin (BU).

10 Impact BE Transfers: E. Paschall (Nova), M. Foster (Creighton), B. Ahmed (SJU), R. Gaston (X), A. Woodson (BU), K. Savage (BU), A. Rowsey (MU),  E. Holt (PC), J. Mulmore (Georgetown), R. Pryor (Georgetown).

5 Under-The-Radar BE Transfers: A. Agau (Georgetown), T. Owens (SJU), J. Thomas (SHU), C. Harrison-Docks (DePaul), I. Jackson (PC).

5 Big East Breakout Players: K. Yakwe (SJU), P. Booth (Nova), K. Cartwright (PC), V. Singh (SHU), T. Wideman (Butler).

8th in the Big East?  That would be disappointing to say the least.  Thankfully, predictions at this time of the year are just that - educated guesses.  Hopefully, we can compete for 5th/6th and make some noise for a tournament spot.  I think St. Johns is a bit too high FWIW.

It's way too early. The coaches know. The players know.

We'll see how things shake out. Predictions this time of year aren't worth the paper they are printed on. The writers would be better served to take compensatory time or vacation.

Rothstein has always been kinda a hack though, especially with his "it's all fun and games until someone loses a buy game" tweets.

His is a worst-case scenario.    But not impossible.    An injury to one of the two bigs, a lack of development, a transfer out......

Frankly, after the top two I think he's reaching. Think he's pretty heavily underrating Butler and us, overrating Georgetown and (are you kidding me) St John's.

No Reinhardt for impact BE transfers? An glaring omission.

Marquette Fan In NY's commentary on Kostas is more insightful than Rothstein.

If he moved St. John's back to 9th he'd have the exact same order I'm projecting. I'm hoping we can surprise and beat out Butler and Georgetown.

He should be number 1 or 2 on that list.

I agree with this analysis.

I suspect 8th is the easy pick for MU — since we lost our leading scorer and rebounder to the NBA and the newcomers (Rowsey, Reinhardt, Howard, etc.) are relatively unknown and/or unproven in the Big East.

I honestly don't care if writers and coaches pick us for 10th place. This team could use a chip on its shoulder. It's up to them to prove all the doubters wrong. It wouldn't hurt if a few opponents underestimate us next season, either.
