Early, but Sacar's 2FG% is 51.3% and his FT Rate is 54.9

Cheetham this year was 45.8% witha FTR of 18.9

Vander Sophmore year was 43.6%|49.6

Vander Junior year was 52.8% | 31.5

In the slasher role, Sacar getting it done. Scoring for twos and drawing fouls at the rim.  Needs to improve his treys and I dare say, FTs.

All Sacar needs to do is be a potential threat from beyond the arc and continue to slash. With Froling coming in, Sacar may now be the 5th option for scoring. But when he slashes and we can spread the D out with 4 3-point shooters out on the floor, the court clears up a bit.

Interestingly, one of Sacar's statistical comps on kenpom is Nick Williams, an MU signee that bailed for Indiana when Crean left then finished up his career at Ole Miss. Will we see comps of all those that bailed during that time come back through the program? Is Theo the Mbakwe we never had? Will Rocket Watts be the next Tyshawn Taylor?

Be nice if he could do a little drive-and-dish occasionally, a la JJJ.

JJJ didn't do a ton of it, as he mostly set himself up, but we miss the dishin' he did.

Is this an insinuation he's gonna jump for the Valley before it's all said and done?

Please explain. Is that the percentage of times he gets fouled on way to hoop or his actual FT percentage at the charity stripe?  Seems like the former.  And how does that rank relative to other slashers?  Thanks.

Free throw rate is the ratio of free throw attempts to field goal attempts.  You do have to look at the numbers a little more thoroughly for individual players, because he may just not shoot a lot.

Free throw rate is the ratio of free throw attempts to field goal attempts.  You do have to look at the numbers a little more thoroughly for individual players, because he may just not shoot a lot.

And it's early in the season so sample size is small. As a benchmark, the average NCAA team average is 34.4. I will also note, Sacar's shooting percent at the rim is 56.3% (18-32).

In a related note, this Harvard research paper says that "free throws made per possession" is a better metric than free throw rate, with the low shots attempted issue being one of the problems with free throw rate as the predictor.

I will just drop this paper's blog link here:

Thank you for this article.

I think the point is that taking a bunch of free throws, even if you miss more than usual, is better than making a bunch of them but not taking very many.

Of course taking a bunch AND making a bunch is preferable.

FTR is more important than FT%

True.

Even if you're shooting 60% from the line (which only 1 of 351 teams were worse than last year), that's an elite offense. Team FT% no matta to winning bball games. FTrate can, but it's by far the least important of the four factors.

#FTsNoMatta

Getting to the line is good, even if you're shooting "a bad percentage"

If they are going to foul you .....making them is better then missing them.....especially if trying to hold a lead in a close game.

Everything matters....  some things just matter more.
