Men's team was the overall #9 seed in the NCAA tourney, so they get a bye.

No favors with the draw, though. They'll host the winner of Akron (2010 Champions) and Indiana (Defending National Champs).

If only we had a proper soccer stadium in which to play Indiana.

How's that?

Heard the funding was only $100,000 short.

Heard former Marquette coach Steve Adlard sent his kid to play at IU a few years back....seems like all the former MU coaches are saying no.

Indiana's 8-11-2. Got in by winning the Big Ten tournament, and needed penalty kicks in the semifinals to do it, too.

Congrats to our men. Excellent news. Hopefully they will be raising a final four banner over valley fields soon.

Nice to see that one a freshman who attended my son's high school scored one of the goals.  He didn't get to play too much this year, so it's nice to see that he made good use of his limited minutes in the BEast Final.  My son and his younger brother are HS teammates and friends.

Did I miss something...was a new stadium built?  I read the donation was contingent on a new $5 million stadium.  Maybe it has, I'm just asking.

Actually, the multi-year construction was just completed. Locker rooms, new turf, permanent stands with stadium seats, new press box. Oh, and Buzz inked Jamil.

That's why I'm asking, the articles said "new stadium", but I suspect it was actually a refurbishment \ upgrade of what was there...correct?

Completely torn down and rebuilt, from turf to stands. Locker rooms never existed as such.

They did a nice job on the soccer stands. Complex is very nice and school should be proud of it. Thought it was funny but last Friday night during women's game I heard a Western Michigan fan say he could not believe the bathrooms were heated. We must be living large at Valley Fields.

They're making progress on the stadium. Don't know how many of you have been down to Valley but the new bleachers are a huge step in the right direction. Coach Bennett has a lot of ideas of how he wants the rest of the stadium to be built. With the bleachers and turf off the list, I'd guess revamping the student section is next. Unfortunately, students don't really have much of a presence at Valley unless it's a huge game. Wish more would go support a top-10 team.

0-0 in the 80th. weather/wind having a big impact on the game.

Akron has had some great chances in the half. MU trying to play everything on the counter.

11/20 NCAA rankings  (203 teams ranked)

 6  Georgetown
 8  Marquette
23 Providence
29 Creighton
34 St. John's
44 Xavier
47 Butler
72 Villanova
76 Seton Hall
99 DePaul

That's 7 out of 10 teams ranked in the top quarter, and even DePaul is ranked in the top 50%!

Only 7 of the 12 Big Ten schools have teams, highest ranked Michigan State at 12, lowest ranked Ohio State at 90.
When Maryland (#4) joins, they should own the Big Ten.

FWIW, VCU is ranked 28th, and SLU 58th.

Don't know what happened, but Victor Souto was issued a red card after the match. He had to be dragged away by the Akron staff because he was screaming his head off at the officials.

I think Akron going down quickly and easily on contact all match long may have worked against them there. The referee was about 15 yards away and looking right at it when it happened, and he gave a big "NOPE" double arm swing to indicate that he did see it and wasn't going to call anything.

I noticed this too. The ref was right there, staring at the play and made an immediate decision.

My daughter played in a premier tournament  where the opposing coach was warned several times about dives. he had a player, who went on to play at Santa Clara, of a certain common ethnicity as most of the refs here who got a lot of calls. The second she crossed into the box with the ball, she was head first going down with any kind of pressure. Anyway, after several warnings in the first, the second half began and one of his players took a dive. The ref immediately ran to the sidelines and red-carded the coach.

The second she crossed into the box with the ball, she was head first going down with any kind of pressure. Anyway, after several warnings in the first, the second half began and one of his players took a dive. The ref immediately ran to the sidelines and red-carded the coach.

Since I share your location, I will agree with you that it happens here and often.  My son is in a premier tournament this weekend and we expect to see more than our fair share.  Since he is the keeper, it gets me nuts because then it is PK time.  It's funny when you play certain clubs from certain towns, you just know going in that its coming.  I've never seen a red card given to a coach for that, however.  I'd like to see it happen more often to stop the silliness.

As a former ref at the travel/club level, i threatened a few coaches with cards throughout my time, but not for diving. I had a strict policy against diving that I would inform both teams and head coaches pre-game and I'd inform my linesmen to assist me in making the determinations in-game as well.  I would warn players once. After that, the cards came out. It's deception, pure and simple. Once a player on a team gets a second yellow/red, you'd be shocked at how the players would suddenly be able to find their balance on nearly any tackle.

As well, I'm not sure on locations/towns, but it did seem prevalent in certain populations.

So who is the official winner of the Big East men's title?  Georgetown which tied with MU for the best Big East regular season record while beating MU head-to-head or Marquette which won the tournament, or both teams due to identical Big East regular season records?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Correct. Marquette can claim double champion status.
