It's not the inferiority, it's the picking at all things Marquette that is never applied to Wisconsin.

He writes the column to garner pages views. MU fans hate it and read it. UW fans love it and read it.

This.

He writes the column to garner pages views. MU fans hate it and read it. UW fans love it and read it. It's the lesser of the two evils and he's scared of Wisconsin.

This is exactly correct.

It's not a bad column, but he's definitely writing for his audience, he's not challenging them.

- If UWM makes the tourney 6 straight years, they would throw a parade (and rightfully so, imo).

- If UW makes the tourney 6 straight years, it's due to Bo's "consistency" and "system". What a great coach. Fundamentals. White guys. Awesome.

- If MU makes the tourney 6 straight years, it's "Haven't had post season success since Wade"

Hunt's not incorrect, but it's a topic that is cliche and dumbed down for a bonehead mass audience.

Will be interesting to see how the conference does in the tourney because they were awful last year.

Yeah, you're right.  The team that finished ELEVENTH place in the Big East won the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.  Showings like that in the NCAA Tournament show just how awful the conference was last year.  You realize that last year the Final Four had 1 SEC team, 1 Big East team, 1 CAA team, and 1 Horizon League team in it, right?  Where are the Big 10/11/12 teams?  Big 12?  Pac 10/12?  ACC?  The Big East and Horizon League were represented in the National Championship, with the Big East team (again, the ELEVENTH PLACE Big East team) winning it all.  Horrible showing.

The Big East had 2 Sweet 16 teams, while both of those teams knocked out other Big East teams to get there (while no other conferences had 2 teams match up that early in the tournament, and thus could have teams advance further without knocking each other out).  The ACC had 3 Sweet 16 teams, Big 10/11/12 had 2, SEC had 2, Pac 10/12 had 1, and the Big 12 had 1.

The Big East had 1 Elite Eight team, as did the ACC, Pac 10/12, and Big 12, while the SEC had 2 and the Big 10/11/12 had ZERO.

To say the conference had an awful showing in the NCAA Tournament last year is just plain wrong.  And 2 teams were forced to exit within the 1st 2 rounds because it was 2 Big East teams facing one another.  Who knows if a team like Cinci (a 6 seed) switches spots with an injury plagued St. John's team (a 6 seed) and plays Gonzaga in the first round and then BYU in the second round rather than playing UConn in the second round.  Maybe Cinci's in the Elite Eight.  Same with Syracuse (a 3 seed) switching spots with a Notre Dame or something (a 2 seed).  Maybe instead of losing 2nd round to Marquette, they beat Florida State and then face VCU.  They could've gone to the Final Four.

I could not have stated this in a more coherent, organized, perfect fashion.  His columns are garbage, and the above bullet points are right on the money.  And the people that read them are a large percentage derpy fat humps who need this kind of  reinforcement soylent green-ish-ly spoonfed to them.

I'm with jerkstore.

Someone said Obama's state of the union speech was written at an 8th grade level.  I wonder what Hunt's columns would rate.  If the Journal Sentinal had someone rate a Michael Hunt column, and then forced him to go back to whatever grade his column rated at and retake all the grades in order to keep his job, all while filming it for a real-life Billy Madison-story documentary, I would be OK with that.

The inferiority complex of Marquette fans never ceases to amaze.

I agree.  This article was stating some obvious points that the perenial powerhouses are not playing up to their expectations and that this is a great year to have Marquette take advantage of that.  I didn't take this article as a slight in any way.  In fact, I think Mr Kunt was acknowlodging our consistency and success.

Considering the average American probably only has (or thinks) at an 8th grade level, you have to give credit to people for knowing their audience.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

since the '03 final four run, MU is 4-6 in the NCAA's in 6 trips. Doesn't look very good when you lay it out like that.

anyone know how that stacks up to other programs who have been in the tourney a comprable amount of times?

Though it is better than the 2-5 it was the year before.  Last year really helped on the road to recovery.

Going forward I like our odds of improving in the tourney.  In 6 tourneys (Big East & NCAA) Buzz has only 1 and Done'd once.  I bet that Washington loss haunts him.

Buzz NCAA record   3-3.     Crean's NCAA record post FF run.   1-3.    On the plus side, Crean has not lost a NCAA or NIT game since leaving.   So he has that going for him.

Many said after MU's two NIT bids in a row after the Final Four, that MU will be a bottomfeeder in the Big East. They been to the ncaa's every year.

We have won 4 tourney games in 8 years since Wade left. Not the worst record out there, but not great.

If Gardner gets healthy and we have a nice run to, say, the Elite 8, which is optimistic but certainly possible, we can say we will have won 7 tourney games in 5 years, including runs to the Sweet 16 and Elite 8. Pretty darned good, and trending upward.

def moving in the right direction as a program as far as NCAA tourney success is concerned, but that doesnt mean Hunt was unfair in his comment about our record since 2003.

that being said, Buzz's teams thrive on being underestimated/undervalued, bring on the haters!

I read this article and wondered: what was the point?  The Big East isn't poorer this year because of the impending departure of Syracuse and Pitt.  Aside from the Cuse, there aren't any dominant teams, but there are some good ones.  Hunt's article seemed to be saying that the Big East was on the decline, but it's not MU's fault and they keep playing hard - so again, what's the point?

Hey Mike Hunt, how is the Big Ten doing?
As always, it was the best conference from preseason until about mid-December when reality sets in and the analysts can no longer make that claim with a straight face.
