Off to a great start with the volleyball team beating Providence. Coming off beating #12 Creighton last night.
Now it hoops time. Should be excellent buzz for the women's team.

They just introduced the women's team and the chicken just got on one knee and proposed to Carolyn.

This guy has to be one of the worst hype men I've ever seen.
Also, I wonder how much money we got from Foxconn to kiss their asses for 5 minutes in the middle of Madness.
-
Marquette brings Foxconn to Madness. ;)
-
Mike Lovell just brought out 3 guys from Foxconn and told them, "In this part of the state, we don't wear red."
The Foxconn guys announced a big on-campus job fair and donated a 75-inch TV to the University.

WOJO ON THE ATV!!!

ATVs. Karate next?

Wojos life just flashed before my eyes! ;D

Suspended for Madness, closed door scrimmage, and exhibition game.

Andrew Rowsey is suspended. Won't play in the closed door vs Northwestern. Won't play in the exhibition game vs Lindenwood

Probably because of the winter hat he wore during intros.

Per twitter, Matche twins are reffing the scrimmage

The Foxconn guys announced a big on-campus job fair and donated a 75-inch TV to the University.
How could they afford it?
-
Wow. I am amazed that Foxconn, a company work in excess of $100B, who is getting billions in tax credits from the State of Wisconsin, can afford to donate a TV with a retail value of $1,500 or so.
How generous.

Is this a commie joke?
-
I used to stream madness but it wasn't an option this year (for many). I was hoping someone would have a recorded live stream on FB but the only one I found was for the intros. I've been looking for the dunk contest and scrimmage. I know it's all meaningless, but when it's been over 6 months without any MUBB, it's still fun to see the new squad.
If anyone knows of anywhere public to see this stuff, please let me know. Otherwise, if you were there, any chance of at least a summary?
-
It’s a nice gesture. You come off sounding like an ungrateful fudge packer when you make comments like that.
It is embarrassing how my home state has fallen over themselves for this company, Given away the farm, and waived a bunch of environmental regulations for a company with a known history of falling short of their promises.
And we bring them to Madness, give them a jersey, and they give us a TV? How embarrassing. We have much more valuable corporate partners than Foxconn. Ones who have been more generous as well.
So yes...I am ungrateful.
-
Guess DCHoopster was right. Madness did provide us more incite.
-
Yes.....that Ike should be a sophomore redshirt. Can't take much away from the all star game last night......but he has a long way to go.

I guess nobody looked good, since there ar no positive comments about anyone.
-
It's hard to have any real takeaways when the scrimmage had zero defense. Ike did look pretty rough though. A redshirt would probably be good to help him catch up with everyone else.

First, it was a nice gesture. Second, you have zero idea what else they may be doing for the university because Madness isn't the place to discuss business. Third, this is supposed to be a fun thread about a fun event. Fourth, the lady that started this already asked everyone to take that crap elsewhere. Honestly, don't some folks have better things to do than hate? Guess that's asking to much.

Rowsey isn't playing. I wonder what that's about.
Pitino got so much from Adidas he started paying other team's players too.

What I was impressed with is our size. All the new big men are solid, well built guys. Strength for the tough Big East schedule. And fouls to give as necessary.

Exactly right. At a fun event on a Friday evening they gave the school a free sample of their product. What’s wrong with that?
They’re engaged with the school and this is not the last thing they’re going to do for it.

far less actually. they get that at cost. something more like $200.
Its a joke of a gift. If they wanted to do something 'nice' they'd have upped it to a 100" and donated 5... or better yet, donate something to the community around Marquette since the last thing a bunch of rich kids need is a 75" TV.

Cannot believe this thread is on page 3 and I have to post this (meaning no one else beat me too it).
Video of wojos near disaster
https://mobile.twitter.com/MUWireSports/status/916490196551716870/video/1
The closest call was to Golden Eagles coach Steve Wojciechowski during the team introduction segment of "Marquette Madness" at the Al McGuire Center.
Wojciechowski fired up the crowd by coming out on a four-wheel, all-terrain vehicle. As he rounded his final corner of the court, the coach nearly lost control of the vehicle and then executed a dramatic, tumbling dismount. If it was staged by Wojciechowski, the coach sold it pretty well.
The “normal”muscoop would have given this pages and pages of Zuberter film analysis. WHAT IS WRONG HERE!!!
Just a bunch of angry old men whining about TVs. Get off my lawn!!!

Puhlease, we have two sentences not really detailing what happened to Wojo buried in between the stupidest argument ever on scoop about a TV.

I was also impressed with Elliot. Really athletic. Wojo has something to work with.

Give it a rest and take it to a different thread. We may find that this partnership leads to a number of well paying jobs for future Marquette grads and other citizens of Wisconsin. Or it may not.

The Instagram highlights by Marquette were pretty good. Appeared to be a good atmosphere.

Imagine if they are funding multiple scholarships for minorities, etc, if the generosity slammers would go quiet for a minute or two.
-
One more word on Foxconn and then onto Madness. I think Foxconn is ultimately worth the (essentially taxpayer funded) payout to bring them here with the hopes of building up jobs new communities that have been hit hard in the last decade. Said the same thing about the casino, Amazon, etc. I'm bearish on jobs longer term because of automation, but my skepticism of the workforce's future is a topic for another thread.
That said, their donation was a stupid gift and a slap in the face. They could have created a smart wall in the AMU of they wanted to show commitment to a partnership. NOT a TV that you might find in an entertainment center or a conference room.
Now, to Madness. Ike looked all kinds of rough. He's not ready, but we didn't really expect him to be. Madness is more for the recruits than anything - demonstrate the energy and excitement around the program. I think we accomplished that.
-
Imagine if they are funding multiple scholarships for minorities, etc, if the generosity slammers would go quiet for a minute or two.
Pretty sure they would say that they were just giving us the State of Wisconsin's money, so no....
For the record, the gift was part of an exchange between the Head of Foxconn and Dr. Lovell, and was ceremonial in nature as much as anything else.
I doubt that when the head of Foxconn got back on the bus (and yes, Foxconn brought an entire busload of executives to Madness), he said, "I cannot believe that we gave Mike Lovell an expensive piece of state-of-the-art technology, and all he gave us was a couple of basketballs. What an effing cheapskate."
-

Well that isn't what was given to Foxconn, they most importantly got to be a centerpiece of one of the biggest annual events for MU basketball. The value of that exposure is worth far far far more than a TV we can buy for $1500.
I'm not wading into this debate...frankly I don't think it belongs on this board period, but your statement/analogy is poor. I know this, because I'm a world champion on using poor analogies.
-

Yes, imagine if $3B funds two scholarships. ::) The two can share a dorm room and the TV.
-
I can almost hear Wojo telling Ike 'Your job son is to beat on Matty every moment in practice. Don't even let him breathe.' Way more weapons to get us ready for BEast.
-

Mike isn't stupid. He is working a lead. Those things usually take some time. Did you honestly expect him to come out of their first meeting with them and say, "I got Foxconn to donate a 10-figure amount to the university"?
-

I'm not disagreeing with you, just saying that analogy was a poor one.
I'm not a big fan of Foxconn, or the deal. But it is very wise and shrewd of Lovell to embrace them. It can only be good for the University.
I just really do not want to go into this too much on this board, or on this thread. Don't think it belongs here...and I know that isn't your fault.
Probably should have kept my mouth shut as my statement served no purpose. I apologize.
-
So... suspension?
Dunks?
Did basketballs go through hoops?
Or maybe we ignore the thing that people actually care about and go all in on the TV. Was it 4K (something fancier?!?!) What's the refresh rate?
Maybe it came with its own LTE connection? Someone give us the details!
-
Imagine if they are funding multiple scholarships for minorities, etc, if the generosity slammers would go quiet for a minute or two.
That would be awesome if they did that! Why would anyone have a problem with that?
Any scholarship period would do a lot more for campus than a television.
-

You unsophisticates can read up on Li Shang Wang Lai here. It is good manners to bring a (often token) gift when visiting one's home or business. A Sharp TV and some basketballs in return show proper etiquette in a developing relationship. The American culture norm of making a big splash is not the norm elsewhere.

We are trying to raise a bunch of money for a new business school. I wonder if Foxconn is being part of that. Also, this could be a tie-in with the new arena naming rights. will be interesting to see how the relationship grows.
-
Foxconn is going to be paying a large amount of money to the building we will be playing in a year from now. They got “exposure” (how many people viewed this, and how many of those very small amount of people are Foxconn going to benefit off of?) while MU got a company looking for future employees talking to students on campus for 2 days and get to play in an arena that they’re putting a lot of money and equipment into.
I ventured over to Dodd’s board for the fun of it this morning. I can’t decide which thread is sillier. This one complaining that Foxconn’s gift/donation to MU wasn’t big enough of the one over there questioning the culture of a program that could allow players to have fun in front of fans rather than going all out and putting to practice the defense they have been preaching this offseason.
-
How will Foxconn be paying into the new arena? Naming rights? I doubt that.
-
You know I am sorry for even bringing this up.
There have been a lot of changes in my life over the past 12 months. Nothing bad. But I find myself not really caring all that much about the coming season or about Marquette basketball in general. It’s probably best that I leave this place for those who do.

It's been mentioned the Feigen and the Bucks owners have been in discussions for naming rights. Whether it is the entire arena or a gate, there's been discussions. I think Feigen was at some announcements for Foxconn coming to Wisconsin. They may not end up paying a cent for the new arena, but there have been discussions.

How many non Superbar threads have been locked because they became too political? This one is in danger.
And when it does you can reread it months from now you will be thoroughly embarrassed by how stupid this thread became and how far it veered off the rails.

Furthering this ... if Foxconn actually did have a large donation to give to MU, and Lovell thought the appropriate venue to announce such a large gift was Midnight Madness five minutes before Wojo fell off an ATV and the slam dunk competition, the Board of Trustees would be right to ask for Lovells's immediate resignation for disrespecting a generous donor.
Fortunately, Lovell is not as stupid as half the people on this thread.

Exactly right ... it is the equivalent of bringing a bottle of wine to a dinner party.
What is lost is the head of one of the most significant corporations in the world flew in from China and brought a token of appreciation. Considering MU has plans for innovation alley (if you do not know what this is, please permanently log-off this site) and Foxconn could be a real game-changer in these plans, we should be pleased Foxconn is taking this much interest in MU.

-We've determined that Rowsey chucked some beer off a balcony but we aren't sure if it was Natty Light or Goose Island BCS
-Wojo fell off an ATV, he claims it was intentional...most think it was near disastrous.
-Madness' usefulness at projecting success this season is at an all time low.....unless you are in the crowd that thinks the fact that a glorified scrimmage included no actual defense is a sign that the defense will suck again, in which case Madness showed that Wojo will be fired by January
-In a weird coincidence, I went to a tailgate for the Penn State-Northwestern game on Saturday morning with the PSU alumni association and met the daughter of a PSU alum who is a freshmen at MU. She said she was excited for basketball season but had no interest in Madness but was super pumped for the concert and all the alumni with money running around on campus. So we got that going for us.
-We got a 75inch TV for somewhere on campus
-Ike looks like he's way behind on the ready scale so don't expect much from him.
Other than that I've got nothing.

Just to stir things up, I'd like to report that I saw Foxconn setting up a huge multimedia display yesterday in the AMU for their career and internship fair, which is going on today.

-In a weird coincidence, I went to a tailgate for the Penn State-Northwestern game on Saturday morning with the PSU alumni association
In the west lot? If so, I was with the JV football team running amok in the yellow and blue Viking jerseys.

Yep we were camped out in the southwest corner of the West lot, right next to Mustards....man I had forgotten what a hole Ryan Field is. However a good time was had by all so what's to complain about

Nice to see a PSU alum enrolling at Marquette for that 2nd degree

Have season tickets, we camp out at the far North of the west lot. That game sucked though, my dads friend got two people to move by halftime with some ruthless Sandusky jokes.

Not to step on ENG's toes but to answer your question: No, unless they play in B1G Championship Game.

B1G West is a joke, if Bucky isn't in the championship game 4 out of 5 years for the foreseeable future they should be ashamed. And the 5th year could only be those seasons when they play some combination of PSU, OSU, Michigan, and MSU for their East-West cross over.
PSU's offense has looked shaky, we'll see what the bye does. Basically looks like the winner of the PSU-O$U tussle in Columbu$ will be the defacto decider on B1G East rep (though I'm not holding my breath for PSU beating Michigan...weird things happen).
-
College football is in trouble if PSU is the number 4 team in the nation. They didn't look great and needed a lot of help from th zebras in the first half to get even a 10-0 lead against NU.

Hey! You watch your mouth! Some of us have betting slips from the MGM when PSU was 20/1 to win it all ;D

I came here to read only about Marquette Madness. Please take this to another thread. Many people are saying it's not fair to derail threads.

I thought "Madness" was being used as an adjective, not a noun.

LOL at "Zuberter"
