Timid DJO
« on: March 12, 2010, 08:06:48 PM »
I don't get it. We either get the ultra agressive, sharp-shooting DJO, or we get this timid, kitten footing version of him like tonight. Does Buzz give him different directions each game? I swear he stood there for 5 whole seconds wide open debating if he should shoot it or not. When he plays timid, he's worthless on the floor.

Plays mentally weak some games...still haven't figured him out.

It's been all or nothing on him.

It's easy to forget that he is still a sophomore playing his first year on the big stage. But it would really be nice to see his confidence carry over from game to game

He's a sophomore. He'll be fine. Maybe he just hit a wall tonight after an emotional game Thursday.

These guys have been playing very competitive basketball for 3 straight nights.  All five starters have probably played 105-110 minutes.  No big deal, hopefully they get a 7 seed.

I think the future will have DJO carrying this team and being one of MU's best ever. He is now deferring to the upper classmen which respect is admirable. Wade did not always take over  games his sophomore year hich he could have.

Are you referring to the play when he has the ball on the left wing spotting up for 3 without a single defender within 7 feet and he stood staring at the basket only to give up to Acker who drove in for a layup and got fouled?

I was screaming at the TV for him to shoot. Could not believe he just stood there. He had no confidence at all tonight.

Same here.  I yelled and then hit my fist on the book that was in my lap, which struck my right testicle.  Then I was really pissed...

I strongly suggest you wear some protection for the  NCAA tourney. ;D

He was playing scared, i was furious when he passed up that wide open 3.  He needs to shoot everytime he is open like that.  What was going through his mind?

No doubt, even if hes throwing up bricks he's gotta be shooting.
He'll learn. He's a soph with huge amounts of talent. I still love him

DJO needs a little Cooby in him.  Keep jacking up the shot.  He has a tendency to disappear in the second half, or at lengthy times during the game.  He is young and will learn, but he is a shooter.  Shooters continue to shoot.

Icouldnt understand it either at first, but I think his feet weren't set when he got it, so there would have been no rhythm going into the shot. Makes a big difference. As to why his feet weren't set when he got it, don't know. Right off the bat we came out with our offense stagnant. When we don't drive and kick and swing the ball quickly we look bad. Fatigue surely played a part in the game overall, but shouldn't have in the first 5 minutes. Still a good tourney run. If gtown can sustain that level of play for a couple more weeks they'll be a tough out in the Tourney.

PLEASE would some one get DJO, once season is over, and tell him to practice NOTHING but 10-15 foot jumpers.  His ball fake is soo good that all he needs to do is take a step or 2 inside and he has an open 10-15 foot jumper.  Would be un-stopable if he develops a decent 10-15 foor jumper.

I expect him to add "dribbling to his right" and a "8-10 ft pull up jumper" to his skill-set this coming off season.  I'm looking forward to the 2010/2011 version of DJO.   :)
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.
