Men's basketball: Taylor to have knee surgery

http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/north-texas-headlines/20140924-men-s-basketball-taylor-to-have-knee-surgery.ece

orth Texas guard T.J. Taylor will have arthroscopic knee surgery today to determine whether there is any structural damage in the joint after he experienced swelling during individual preseason workouts this week.

“We hope it won’t be anything major,” UNT coach Tony Benford said. “He was sore this week and had some swelling. He didn’t injure it on the court.”

Benford said UNT will not know how long Taylor will be out until after the procedure. UNT’s first official day of practice will be Oct. 6. The Mean Green open the season Nov. 14 against Arkansas-Monticello, four days after their lone exhibition against Oklahoma City.

The senior had not experienced any previous knee issues, Benford said.

The former Denison standout averaged 7.0 points per game and started twice last year. Taylor flashed the potential that made him a top national recruit when he scored 24 points in a loss to Idaho and 21 in a double-overtime win over Portland during the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Portland, Ore., in November, but he struggled to play at a consistently high level the rest of the season.

Taylor is expected to play a major role for the Mean Green this year after the departure of four key guards, including Alzee Williams.

Williams was UNT’s second-leading scorer last season with an average of 11.1 points per game. Brandan Walton and Vertrail Vaughns also were seniors last season, and starting point guard Chris Jones transferred to Angelo State.

Taylor was a three-time all-state selection at Denison and a consensus top-150 recruit nationally. He signed with Oklahoma but left the school and made stops at Paris Junior College and Marquette before transferring to UNT, where he sat out the 2012-13 season.

Tough Break. He may be better off redshirting this year.

Medical redshirts can be taken on top of a regular redshirt if the right conditions are met

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
