Potential Opponents in First Round: who to avoid?
« on: March 15, 2008, 10:43:46 AM »
Okay, moving on from the Pitt game.  Since many here have agreed matchups are critical for this team, I have listed our potential opponents in the first round.  There are quite a few.  Of this list who do we NOT want to play?

Baylor
UNLV
Davidson
Arkansas
Illinois State
Arizona State
Arizona
Western Kentucky
Kent State
St. Mary's
UMass
Oregon
St. Joseph's
South Alabama

I feel like you might be missing a number of higher quality teams we could end up playing.  While I believe we will get a 6 seed, I wouldn't be shocked by a 7.

Baylor - They are really playing poorly down the stretch.  Yes
UNLV - Sure
Davidson - Sure
Arkansas - Avoid
Illinois State - Yes
Arizona State - The Pac-10 teams scare me more than some of the others
Arizona - As much talent as anyone, so I wouldn't want to play them.
Western Kentucky - This might be the worst team on this list
Kent State - I could live with this
St. Mary's - Avoid, this would be the last of this group I'd want to play
UMass - Sure
Oregon - The worst of the Pac-10 teams, but wouldn't be my first choice
St. Joseph's - Sure
South Alabama - I think after losing in their tourny they could be up for a big game.

I'd actually want to avoid St. Joseph's as well. They're playing good ball right now. Sitting at 22-11 with wins over Temple, Villanova, and Xavier(x2). Also, lost @Syrcuse by only 3 pts and took Gonzaga to OT.

They're playing good ball down the stretch and could cause us trouble if we come out in any sort of funk.
