Maybe we should have an NCAA "Big Dance" tournament to help the athletes earn some extra cash.

"Emily James, the NCAA's associate director of public relations, told USA TODAY Sports by email Friday that an NCAA membership committee "provided direction allowing for Notre Dame’s Arike Ogunbowale to participate on this season of Dancing With the Stars."

However, Ogunbowale can receive prize money from the show. How? As James said, the prize money would be for her dancing achievements, because they are unrelated to her NCAA "basketball abilities."

But James said Ogunbowale will not be allowed to participate in commercial promotions for DWTS, because they would essentially be promoting her likeness. Additionally, Notre Dame athletics spokesman Josh Bates told USA TODAY Sports by email that the university cannot promote Ogunbowale's appearance on DWTS outside of the "factual statement" that she is on the show."

Just f*cking ridiculous....

Just makes me think of when they completely boned Jeremy Bloom's football career.

Just f*cking ridiculous....

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.  Either have the rule, or don't.  Preferably don't.

Everyone knows that she's on the show for one reason, and one reason only:  she's a famous athlete.  Hell, this particular season is all athletes.

If she can keep this money because she's earning it with her dancing skills, it seems to me that there is absolutely no reason that Howard shouldn't be able to earn money because of his acting or modeling skills.  Put him in a commercial for a local car dealer.

Stupid. Ridiculous. Hypocritical. Disingenuous.

Goldarn it, I hate the NCAA.

Breaking news: To comply with Title IX, Bonzie Colson will also be participating on DWTS.

My NCAA BS detector just shot off the gauge.

1) What is an NCAA athlete wanted to sell cars in the summer?  It's not related to playing an NCAA sport but.... success may be the consequence of participating in an NCAA sport and the notoriety associated with  participation in the sport.

2) The image can't be used because it competes with the NCAA's and its member institution's use and right associated with the same image. Same reason you won't see an athlete endorsing milk, beer, cars, shoes etc.

These people are the most hypocritical, lying and self-serving business executives I've ever seen. Think about it. If as an employer, any of us offered a contract to an employee, promised them a tax-free payment in kind for their services that, in many cases, is way below market value and then told them that if they, in anyway, displeased us, we would use our monopoly power to ban them from the industry,  what would happen?

It's garbage like this that leads to players like Slick Rick in Loserville. Create oppressive rules and some slick operator will find a way around the problem.
