Sadly, it is likely Easy Marks. The audiences of those news sources both don't trust the government, and skew towards the more elderly type.

Scams of all types prey on elderly, because they tend to be easier marks. The type of scam is also targeted at those who don't trust the government.

Exactly correct.

And on the other end is crypto scammers that tend to pinch the young and left-leaners.

Scammers look for vulnerabilities and exploit them.

Crypto is a libertarian idea.  Trust me.  It's not a leftist value at all.

I'm absolutely an outlier because I believe in both.

Do you know libertarians???

Yes and not all are economically driven.

Some are driven by social ideals like legalized drugs.
Western Progressives have one worldview, the correct one.

No, not typically.  Most libertarians aren't for big government nor government control/regulation.

Horseshoe theory…

Or there’s a fair bit of anarchist political philosophy that overlaps with libertarian political philosophy, but none of it really matters in American electoral politics.

Ron Paul, a libertarian, ran for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012.

He finished third in Iowa, second in New Hampshire, fourth in South Carolina, third in Nevada, fourth in Colorado and second in Minnesota before eventually having no shot at the nomination.

He was criticized by some for not really being a Republican, but he sure as heck wasn't a Democrat.

Gary Johnson was the Republican governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2003. He became a libertarian in 2011 and ran for president as a third-party candidate in both 2012 and 2016. In the two races, he combined to win nearly 6 million votes.

Not sure if he ever tried to either sell or buy gold coins.

Ron Paul wanted us to return to the gold standard. Shaky mental/economic foundation that guy.

My former IT guy ran for Indiana governor as a libertarian in 2020 and received 11 percent of the votes. He's making another run in 2024.

My late father in law was a big fan. I remember him giving my wife and I “Fail Safe Investing” along with “Whatever Happened to Penny Candy” (different author).

That's great. Does he do a ton of fundraising and campaigning? Or does he just pop his name out there and hope for some votes?
