Memorial Day = Those who have fallen
Veterans Day = Those who have served

So today let's remember those who have fallen to defend our country and gave the ultimate sacrifice.

My 14 year daughter is at Arlington cemetery today with her 8th grade class.  They flew in a few days ago.  I'm sure they are having a somber but memorable experience

No harm if both days aren't about both.

Technical question .. is Memorial Day .. only for the "fallen" while in service?    Or anyone who served, but died later?

Also, RIP dad.

Didn't know your Father was killed in action - my sincere sympathies.

He wasn't....he died Memorial Day weekend, 17 years ago today.  Memorial Day is tough for us because of loved ones lost in war, but also because it happens to be the weekend he died suddenly, as well.  Thank you for the condolences.

Memorial Day is for those who have given the last full measure of devotion while in service to their country.

While each can celebrate in their own way, my personal preference has always been in a non-commercial, non-look at me way. Raise a glass, say a prayer, give thanks and move on. I know it comes from a good place for the most part but all the constant social media posting about Memorial day(especially when not referencing what the holiday is actually about) bothers me a little.
