At this time on Saturday a somewhat average Marquette team has beaten Wisconsin at the Kohl Center for an encouraging second straight time. If the crowd starts chanting "Booooooo" it's only appropriate that Wojo, Lovell and other enablers of the MU basketball brand just laugh their asses off as Rowsey further eggs them on.
No, it wasn't a close game as Sam and Markus made some garbage time shots down the stretch but the Badgers will leave with yet another loss as Wojo and his teams often win the sideline X&O battle. Further Wojo teams have killer instinct stemming in part to the positive atmosphere he has created where his motto of "Win Every Day" apparently applies to the summer months and to game days during the season.
MU is currently reaping the benefit from all the smart Wojo recruiting decisions during his first two years before Stan Johnson helped further enhance the recruiting ship. Early decisions to recruit Heldt and Rowsey have defined this year's team as our actual upper class-men are both critical, both as a scorer or key role player. When Stan arrived we found additional talent and upside. However right now we're benefiting from this foresight and looking at our second tournament season in four Wojo attempts.
Markus Howard is really freakin' good. He's getting even better, which is crazy awesome. Therefore he's going to be the leader of this program for the next two and a half years, and he's only 18. I'm sure Wojo could encourage him to be on the NCAA Oversight Committee to further develop his leadership skills. This scenario worked out well for Wojo, who worked with Coach K on Team USA, which has great for his own coaching and leadership development.
There are at least three good players coming in/eligible next year and some a good player returning next game as well. The program has taken a step up along with the conference. Hopefully we can sell out the new arena and sweep Creighton, DePaul and later UConn and Gonzaga when they don't join the conference. It's truly something that barely matters as Wisconsin has taken a step back and looks pretty miserable, is in an inferior conference, and has Walmart fans throughout the state. This combination of disadvantages has made us look like Marquette in comparison, because We Are Marquette.
