Nice.....When is Eddie Burns going to make a movie about AL? He would be the only actor I could imagine playing him...

Thanks for the wonderful article.....and as someone who grew up on stories about Al, it just never seems as though there can be enough good things said about the man and that no article or words can ever truly capture the full Alfred McGuire.
My absolute favorite is the story my father told me about how he waited outside the athletic office waiting to hear what seed MU was in the tournament. This was the year (1970?) MU was set to possibly play Kentucky at rupp arena and Al was livid. He came out and asked my father and another student " so you represent the student body, NCAA or NIT?" and they;re response was both "NCAA" and Al's response was "So much for democracy!" and the rest they say (literally) is history.

I see this same thing mentioned when the 70 NCAA decision is discussed, the NCAA did not seed teams in those days which was part of the problem, they somewaht arbitarily determined who played who and where.

Either way you missed the point......it was a good story about a great man

great article- being old enough to have enjoyed him firsthand, I really appreciate the 'Abbey' stories.

Part 2 of the article is absolutely spectacular.
