I'd say my primary source is an aggregator:  http://www.memeorandum.com/

A lot of it is opinion, but if there's a sizable news story, there'll be links to news outlets.

I voted CNN but think that hilltopper is on the right path in that getting a variety of opinions is the best course.  CNN has a clear bend but not a biased........that is, given some of the other options provided.

The key is that the reader needs to understand that there is a slant to every article.  I think we've all observed what happens when you only listen one channel.

Poll seems skewed to an assumption of getting one's news from TV. I havent gotten my news from any TV source in many years....My brother was in local TV news for 40 years and we both lament its digression to simplicity, laziness, and sound bites. The Days of the trustees of  a public trust in news reporting espoused by Edward R Murrow, Walter Cronkite Huntley/Brinkley.... have passed forever.

I read NY Times, Houston Chronicle, Time and then daily.... I cruise my bookmarks of about 6 compilation news sites.
I dont read opinion pages...preferring to distill and reach my own views..
but my goal always remains to drill down for the reported facts...a task made harder now than ever before
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

I primarily use the Apple News app on my iPad, which is an aggregator.  The stories I clock on most often seem to come from the Washington Post and NY Times.

Buzzfeed.

But in actuality, BBC is probably first choice followed by CNN.

I don't have a 'primary' news source.    I use many.  If something big is going on, I will flip between msnbc, cnn, and fox, to see how an issue is being framed and look for nuance I may not thought of.  I know what my own biases are.    I like to understand the perspective of others.

Didn't vote, I'd say my primary source is twitter. I have a group of reporters, opinion makers, news organizations (CNN, VOX, JSOnline, WSJ, etc) that I follow. Provides a fairly robust amalgamation of what's going on, I can deep dive where I want by clicking on links and if my TL gets skewed too much to one source or one viewpoint I adjust who I follow/unfollow.

It's the greatest, best phrase.....and yes, yes I do. I don't know what is more enjoyable(in a masochistic way) the Trump tweets or the reaction to them.

Primary source has been The Economist magazine for over 15 years. Weekday background television is CNBC. Supplement that at weeknight with my local ABC affiliate, channel 7 Eyewitness News in NYC.

I consider CNN, Fox News, MSNBC (and their offshoot stations) to be as influential in the breakdown of the social fabric of the USA regarding decency, manners, respect, and dignity amongst your fellow citizens as any derelict parent would be considered the main culprit.

Do you listen to their podcast? Very good, and nice short ones to squeeze in the car during commutes or while doing something at work I can split focus on. Especially like the Babbage episodes.

How many people watch their local tv channel for news at any point during the day? Only reason I would ever watch it is just for the local weather otherwise it would never be on. Wife has it on in the mornings as we're getting us/kid ready and at night when we're heading to bed and I just can't stand it/find no value.

If you are watching it, why?

As long as I get to work before 8:30a, it's WTMJ-AM.  Otherwise, JSO for local and Yahoo for world/national.

Like most cord-cutters, I get 0% of my news from TV.  The only time I turn the TV on for news is if I'm at work or in a hotel and something major is breaking (or updating), in which case, I'll flip between whatever stations have an active feed - typically spending the most time on CNBC or BBC-America.  I'll sit on a single station right up until they go to the talking heads or guest "experts," which means I'm only on CNN, MSNBC or FNC for about 45 seconds at a time.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

As one that regularly commutes 40 miles on 2 wheels, like you posted, I watch local broadcasts for the weather. I really do not watch news, it seems like wearing a wristwatch, why bother? It's not like you won't hear the time/news if its important anyway.

Oh I have the tv on when falling asleep as well but I'd much rather watch an 80s movie on IFC then the dregs of local news.

Side note, nobody seems to like the new Daily Show or whatever it's called after the Daily Show that Colbert hosted.....is it a format issue, host problem, news is just too depressing, or some combination of all of the above?

Whenever major breaking news I am all over CNN. Normal times TV is on Fox News or CNBC if not watching sports.

I have not. This question reminds me that I do listen to news podcasts at the gym, so that's a primary source as well I guess. I'm partial to BBC World News (daily) and Deutsche Welle Inside Europe (weekly).

Clearly I'm a fan of the Economist style so I'm going to add in their podcasts into the rotation.

In this genre, Samantha Bee and John Oliver are quite sharp and display a good bite.

Certainly a few flicks from the 80s worth watching (Ferris, Drugstore Cowboy, Ridgemont High, Scorsese, etc) but doubt i'd want to make a habit out of it.

This poll is lame. It leaves out a lot of key news sources. Here are mine:

WBEZ 91.5 FM Chicago (NPR)
WGN 720 AM Chicago
DNAinfo Chicago (hyperlocal news based on neighborhood)
The Guardian (British newspaper) - US Edition (primarily through their Facebook page)
BBC News (again through Facebook and their radio broadcasts on NPR)
New York Times

The rare instances I actually get news from the TV it is typically CNN and Fox News (I like hearing opposing views).

In the car I will also occasionally listen to 620 and 1130 AM to stay abreast of events in Milwaukee and the rest of Wisconsin, the state I grew up in, even though I live in Chicago. But the reception is iffy depending on time of day.

Anyone who relies on only one news source, whether its MSNBC or Fox News, and no others, is woefully unprepared to contribute anything to public discourse.
