Looks like they've decided to give DG that shot from the top. Probably a good decision. Ox shouldn't rely on that one too often

That will eventually open up some jumpers for Jamil, Todd and Jake.(Jamil and Jake already got 1 great look each)

Yep.  I love when we kick it out to DG and he steps into it...but not so much when DG is just dribbling around and shoots because they're giving him the cushion.

I like Derek - I just dont think driving to the basket makes you a slasher.  I think of a slasher as someone like Vander or Todd, who can take it to the basket and finish strong (slam it home, switch hands and go to the other side if the rim etc).  Derek just can't do that. Not enough of an athlete.

Don't know what "slashing honor" is.

I like seeing Derrick do well because I like to see MU do well...and because I'm tired of all the crap he takes here.  Not blind love - admiration for a player who makes the most of what God gave him, and does whatever Buzz asks.

Yeah but you were upset when someone pointed out he isn't a slasher. That isn't an insult. Ox isn't a slasher.

It was just a point that the announcer has no idea what he's saying. Then when you said he has "3 layups" I showed how having lay ups doesn't prove anything. Based on the very nice break away steal.

I didn't applaud the injury. Nice to have a guy out. It's not like he was being carted off on a stretcher or anything serious. he just went to the locker room early.

Ox cannot rebound according to a number of people on this board. Must be that is why he leads the team.

Dawson with rought start.  Starts with a bad entry pass turnover, then leaves Barlow wide open for 3 in order to double-team... Scouting report.

I'm sure Dawson WAS following the scouting report - doubling the post...as Buzz always wants to protect the paint first...Buzz didn't yank him after Barlow hit the 3 - and as short of leash as Dawson's been - tells me he played that possession to the scouting report.  As for turnover..yep...forced a pass in to Davante...nonetheless, Dawson getting his 90 second stints of action...hard to do much in that time.

But, Derrick has played better this game - in my opinion playing his best game of the year actually - playing with far more aggression/tempo than he has been.  Can live with the turnover he made when trying to push ball up the court to force the action...just want to see him play aggressively...which includes shooting 3's.

I miss ESPN3.

I must be one of the only ones happy with the switch to FOX.  This is the first season in a while where I have been able to watch every single game on TV.  Previous seasons games would be blacked out for random reasons (live no where near milwaukee) and be forced to watch them on the computer.

Only complaint this year is that I don't have CBSSN in HD.

The Oxtule lineup is hurting more than it is helping right now. Taking Ox away from the basket on a lot of possessions and Butler is backing into the paint. The one possession, it was just D. Wilson and Ox rotating back and forth across the top of the key and then D. Wilson putting up an awful shot from the corner because the shot clock was expiring. If Ox gets down low, we are scoring at a great rate whether it is him or another open look.

I disagree that it's hurting. We got off to another solid start today due to that.

You cannot go back to having Jamil with 4 guys who can't score well on there own. Adding Ox gives more options and opens things up.

I recognize the FOX deal is overall good from a dollars standpoint, but I miss ESPN3 as well.  At least you could have SOME means to watch every game, even if it was just on your PC.  With the new FOX deal, if the game isn't on Fox Sports or Fox on TV, I can't watch it.  My cable provider (Verizon) isn't signed up with Fox Sports Go so I can't stream anything.  I don't get CBSSN and frankly I'm not going to pay an extra $10 a month for two Marquette games.

If you take Ox away from the basket and keep him high, it blocks the lane for any type of dribble drive penetration. If Otule is out and Gardner is low, you can go inside and have a much higher percentage rate of scoring because of his playmaking ability from the post. If Otule is in, Ox has to play on top because Otule away from the basket really adds nothing except that hand off play which doesn't work because of our lack of shooters who can create space.

I agree with you but Otule is always going to start due to the tip and starting with defense.

Therefore you have to play them together to start games or you risk stagnant offense.

Todd needs to wake up.   Derrick has looked solid.   Deonte has as many fouls as minutes, can't have that.  I'm not a fan of the Oxtule line-up.   Gardner needs to be on the low block or the wide post.     Can't do that with CO in the game.   Plus, Gardner won't feed him from the high post.

I guess I just don't put much stock in winning the tip as a game changer and Otule's D is valuable, but in a game where the opponent has zero size, it isn't a must have, especially with Jamil guarding Butler's best player.

But if its working in spurts and getting good looks, I can't argue. Just looking at a few key possessions where it was an empty trip because Gardner was floating around the 3 line which is not where he needs to be and down the line it might not be the best offensive option.

The issue is not that he used to be a good ref, or that he had a great resume. It's that he suck now. And considering that the only big east official that rivaled Burr's incompetence was Tim higgens, his opinion means very little. Burr is too old for the schedule that college officials keep.

Right now, the difference is due to the FTs: MU (8-9), BU (3-8).

MU needs stops and a run to put some distance from BU, or this game can be a disappointment for the GE.

The big difference in this game is that when Bulter needs a bucket there guys have come through, contested or uncontested they made the shots they needed.

Our guys just can't make a shot.  Fromm is 25% on the year from 3, but both times they needed a bucket he made it.

We shot 30% from the floor for the game.

Mu was up 40 to 28 with 14 minutes to go.

MU outscored 41 to 17 since that point. That's 17 points in basically a full half (counting OT).

Butler was not a good team and this was a bad loss for the team.

Sad to say, but OT was a gift and MU didn't want it.

This offense is sad.

Buzz may not have the players who could execute his plays but he has to change it up to give them the best chance to win.

I think it's time for a change with the assistant COs.

Quote
3. 1/15/2011: Louisville 71, Marquette 70

Just three months into its existence, the KFC Yum! Center gained its first signature moment when Louisville pulled off the "Miracle on Main."

Marquette dominated the game for significant stretches and led by 18 points with just 5:36 to play. But the Golden Eagles unraveled during the game's final five mintues, making just two field goals during that span and throwing away several chances to secure a key victory over the 17th-ranked Cardinals.

Preston Knowles took advantage. The senior captain hit four extremely difficult 3-pointer in rapid succession to bring U of L to within one and then, with the defense focused solely on him, found a wide-open Kyle Kuric for the game-winning lay-up.

"That's one of the top-five comebacks," said Rick Pitino. "They outplayed us for the first 34 minutes. I'm really proud of these guys. I'm shaking. It happened so fast."
