New ESPNU 100
« on: September 02, 2010, 01:24:20 PM »
New #1--Austin Rivers. Damn I wish he was at least considering us!

Most of the ratings look pretty similar to what they were in the last edition, but they did revamp the look of their recruiting site. Looks a lot better than before, has a lot more info, they also started giving players stars. I'm an ESPN insider, so I'm not sure how much everyone will be able to access.

Some players of interest to MU:

#4 Quincy Miller
#25 Nick Faust
#28 BJ Young (haven't heard much about us and him in a while)
#30 Rodney Hood
#39 Sam Thompson (see Young, BJ)
#55 Naadir Tharpe
#56 DeAngelo Harrison
#61 Ky Madden
#63 Mike Shaw
#72 Deuce Bello
#87 Darnell Harris

We need to get 3 of these guys preferably:
PF Miller with Shaw as second choice for PF
SG Faust with second choice of Madden for SG
PG Tharpe or Young

Don't believe any of these guys are Centers

Well, withh 11 possibles if the average kid on this list had us as one of 8 schools, then the averages say we get 1 or 2 of them.  3 would be an unbelievable year sonsidering that would mean we had filled every available spot with a top 100 player.  Zero would obviously be a big disappointment.  If we sign one and its the perfect fit and high on the list, or any 2 of these guys would be great.

How many of the Top 100 list are Centers?  The obsession with Centers/bigs almost getting funny.  Lastly, Marquette has never had a roster with as much Top 100 talent, as is currently on the roster - Blue, Jones, Wilson, Williams, Cadougan - throw in 4 1st team JUCO All Americans..and we don't necessarily NEED to get ANY of these guys.  If we were to land 3 kids off this list (I believe 1 is realistic) but if we landed 3...our roster would be comprised of 8 Top 100 kids, JUCO Player of the Year, and DJO.  The other 3 players would be Reggie Smith (rated 105), Davante Gardner, and Chris Otule.  Pretty amazing roster if that happened...(along with Dave Singleton as a walk on)
"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

If I were to predict, we will get three guys in the 1-175 type range, one of them from this list of top 100.  If we get two, it would be amazing...three would be absolutely incredible.

We dont have 4 1st team JUCO AAs

We have 5 Jucos...Buycks/DJO/Crowder were 1st team. Butler was Honorable Mention and Fulce was 2nd team.

Thanks for the clarification...I thought Jimmy was a 1st teamer..but guess not.  Nonetheless...Jimmy is gone next year as is Joe...and the make up of our roster will still be quite strong even if we don't land 1 of the Top 100 kids on our list.  That said, I think we get 1...and my best guess would be Shaw.

I think it would be easy to project both Fulce and Butler as 1st team all-juco, if the played their sophomore years at JC.

I don't know if I would say its funny.  I would say it is reality and an extremely valid concern for fans.  We don't want to waste the talent we have at the wing coming in.  Lack of interior defense and rebounding has been a concern since Scott Merritt and Robert Jackson were here.  We are looking nice with having a freshman interior player and sophmore interior player, but need to keep it up.

We don't need top 100 bigs, but we need to recruit our interior need rather than best available player.

I don't want to turn on the game in two years and see Jamil Wilson starting at center.

Just remember about Miller, if he comes, the odds are we may have to also take Deuce Bello at SG in a package. Not that he's a poor consolation prize, but my guess is if we get Miller, we will be less likely to land Faust or Madden at the 2.

haha.  that'd be nice if we picked up a JUCO center. That way we wouldn't have to start a noob.

Looks like they updated the numbers again any the last few hours as a few of the rankings are already different than what was up earlier today.

Anyway, MU is in on Bruce Barron and DeMarcus Harrison as well.  There are a bunch of guys that MU was in on in the past, Chasson Randle, Ryan Boatright, Shane Larkin etc, but we don't seem to be involved anymore.

Darnell Harris is no longer at Milwaukee Hamilton. He is attending a prep school out of state.

I just took a peak at the new list and I think that the new set up is GREAT.  The strengths and weaknesses are almost like what scout does with highly ranked recruits but it's more in depth.  and the best part about it is you dont have to be an "insider" to read them.  awesome job espn.

Based on the list, the already-talented make-up of our roster and Buzz's JUCO connections, I'd love to see us get:
>> A top 100 HS kid
>> A high profile JUCO (a la Jae)
>> A sleeper from either - (a la DJO, Reggie Smith)

I'd settle for a Marcus Jackson type JUCO big at this point for the 4 spot.   Jackson was actually a very solid rebounder his senior year, we could use his 9 rpg.

He wouldn't have to run the point, would he?

I think this is the perfect class to take a chance on a huge project.  The set up for next year already looks like:
Cadougan/Smith
DJO/Blue
Wilson/Jones
Crowder/Williams
Otule/Gardner
I understand that might not hold up, as this season hasn't even started yet, and performance, injuries, transfers, etc. will change the landscape of the lineup.  However, with that core of players, why not add a big project to this group to possibly red-shirt '11-'12, and be ready to contribute a little his freshmen year and increase production a little more each year afterwards.

Does anyone think the current walk-on from Penn (his name is slipping my mind right now) might be given a scholarship for '11-'12?  Would that be his last year, or would he have another as well?

Singleton is good enough to warrant a scholarship. I have no idea what Buzz promised him. My guess is that Buzz will sign three players and Singleton will get a scholarship, if DJO goes pro or someone else leaves. Maybe Buzz will not give out the third scholarship, if the player is not better than Singleton.
