Under Shaka Smart, Marquette is back as a threat, as Villanova has learned twice now
MILWAUKEE — From his usual spot on the sideline, Shaka Smart turned to face the crowd and raised both his arms. This was around the time when it started to sink in that Marquette may actually do it, again beat mighty Villanova. With about 8:30 left, Marquette secured another defensive rebound, ensuring Villanova wouldn’t cut into a seven-point lead but more importantly reinforcing that the Golden Eagles weren’t about to let this one go.

Good read, thanks for sharing

Excellent story... thanks
So nice to be getting National attention again

LOVE THIS. did anyone, besides Goose, think we'd be reading a story like that as the calendar flipped to February. I had always anticipated reading ESPN's march madness article (the one where they profile each conference and categorize teams as a lock, work to do, or outside the bubble) and hoping we might sneak in. Now we're projected to be a top 4 "protected seed".
I hope recruits are paying attention and realize Marquette’s trajectory

Thanks for posting - solid story and great exposure for Marquette!

i remember following shaka back when he was at vcu. he would take his players on "man camps" and work out with them, jog with them, eat with them, tell jokes with them, laugh and cry with them. well, we know how that all turned out at vcu. what went wrong in texas? well, they won games(109-86) just not the right ones, often enough. he just couldn't seem to turn the corner with the players he had there.
i look at this as shaka reset and back to what worked and he's having more fun sooner than he expected. the nice thing about that is, it's contagious. the one thing i've always said about shaka is that he's a players coach. kids want to play for the man.

Rocket—do you still wish you got the invite to a man camp? Perhaps things would have different.

Shaka has saved marquette. I hope every recruit in the nation is paying attention, reading this board, and realizing that Marquette nation is back in its prime!!!!
Ummmm I did.

It’s hard to hear when the constant cheering from their boisterous student section, which was filled hours before tip, is competing with Smart’s triumphant pounding on the floor after every big Marquette play.
Filled hours before tip, hey?
