The Case for Lazar as BE POY
« on: February 25, 2010, 04:40:17 PM »
from Brendon at Baseline Stats -- a thorough analysis

http://www.baselinestats.com/20100225/lazar-hayward-is-big-east-player-of-the-year-for-now/

one excerpt of note

"I count 16 major-conference players in the top 100 in defensive rebounding rate, but none is as short as the 6-foot-6 Hayward."

Hmm, do you think that he will even be given serious consideration? I wish that I could discern the impact of the team's performance in the voting. Who votes? Writers? Coaches?

I wonder if that last stat is skewed slightly.  Here's what I mean.  Because Hayward is the tallest guy on the team (or maybe off by an inch to Butler), he has no one else really grabbing rebounds away from him.  More opportunities I guess is a way of phrasing that.

Nevertheless, he's a man among boys out there.  Love Lazar.
