OT: The New Big East Lacrosse
« on: March 13, 2013, 09:48:56 PM »
The New BE will only have 5 D1 lacrosse programs (Gtown, Nova, Marq, St Johns, Prov) if they add Xavier, Butler, and Creighton. Butler and Creighton both have ok club teams, so it might be possible to push them to the D1 level, but if not, what happens to our lacrosse program? We need at least 7 members for an automatic berth in the NCAA playoffs.

Should we go after John Hopkins and other independents?

Hopkins is actually looking at the option of joining a conference...according to their latest alumni news email, a couple conferences have reached out to them.

Rutgers and Michigan may also be options.  I'm sure it won't take long for the B1G to generate enough cash to get most of the conference in on it, but good for a few years.  Richmond also has a women's team and is going D1 for men's next year if they were to be added.

I think you only need 6 for the automatic bid.  The JH rumors started flying about a year ago, that would be a great addition.

The ACC actually only has 4 teams (Duke, Carolina, Virginia, Maryland). ACC will replenish with ND and Syracuse to get to 5 teams.

In theory, Big Ten could form a conference of their own with the additions (Ohio State, Michigan, Rutgers, Maryland, Penn State).

New Big East has 5 teams (Marquette, Georgetown, Villanova, St. John's, Providence) Only DePaul and Seton Hall don't have Lacrosse programs in the C7.
