Kolek planning to go pro
In Wisconsin, we are not allowed to turn anyone away at the polling place. Even if they are sick with every symptom of Covid.
TAMUI do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.
Both your license plate and driver's license already have expiration dates on them. And everyone can sign up for email notices.Do you think it's a wise use of your taxpayer money to snail mail people notices of what's already in front of their eyes and notices can be sent free?Everyone is for government efficiency and cost-cutting until they're not.
Everyone harps on the little things government spends money on - like first class postage!!!Like they should send election notifications by bulk mail???
That makes total sense to me. You can't have someone arbitrarily deciding if someone is sick or not. What doesn't make sense to me is not allowing polling places to require masks. There's nothing arbitrary about whether or not someone is wearing a mask.
Brother Fluff:The issue is not the little things the government spends money on. It's the priorities on which they spend. The Illinois Secretary of State administers the records of the State of Illinois, including driver's licenses and vehicle registration. The proper administration of the voting rolls in Illinois is done at the county level. What those who fuss about the Secretary of State are concerned about is not that the Secretary of State, by definition, is sending out voting reminders. Rather, that the Secretary of State is claiming poverty when it comes to doing his job but is spending significantly on something that is, at best, ancillary to his job. When your State has a $146 billion public pension deficit and your public employees may lose their pensions because there is no money to pay them, then every expenditure matters. Every single one. Including the few dollars spent on get out the vote drives that's better spent by the two political parties.
Agreed. Everyone should be required to wear a mask, sick or not. We are in the middle of a pandemic, for chrissakes!
Thankfully, masks are required at polling places in Wisconsin.
Only for those working the polls. Not for those voting.https://wqow.com/2020/07/31/masks-not-required-at-the-polls-on-election-day/
Frankly, much as I wish otherwise, I don’t believe you can require masks for voting, as a basic Constitutional right.
Wrong. Reasonable restrictions are placed on basic constitutional rights all the time. You have a right to freedom of speech, but are prohibited from exercising that right to incite violence or possess/distribute child pornography. You have a right to 'bear arms,' but can be restricted if you are a convicted felon or want to own a functioning rocket launcher. We are in the middle of a pandemic, and a state would be well within the confines of the Constitution to enact a rule requiring a simple mask to prevent spread of a deadly virus. Especially true given that there are easy alternatives, like absentee voting.
Why would anyone wait in line for hours in the cold rain for EARLY VOTING???
I have my reasons
I'd like to hear them. Not trying to be a prick, I totally get why people want to vote early, but when you have a 2-week window, there can't always be lines.
wrote a sql query, on home internet they usually take an hour to fully load, polling place is around the corner and a neighbor said about 30minutes prior "there's only 4 people there", it was mid 50s and sunny when I went over, the line was long but figured "eh what the hell I have an hour" then by the time I was an hour in I was stubbornly too invested to turn around. But it got slower, darker, colder and wetter.
Not when the very order that requires a mask is under legal attack. This is a sensible way for dealing with this problem, especially if it prevents legal challenges to the vote. Considering few (if any) Covid cases were traced to the April elections, it's not tremendously risky anyway.
I voted while eating my lunch at my desk today. It actually took me nearly 20 minutes to do it as I researched info on various initiatives in the two voting guides sent out with my ballot. I felt I was fully informed in making my decision on which way to vote. I also pulled the trigger on a State Rep GOP candidate who had strong anti-Trump stances in his position guide, as well as fully acknowledging GCC. He'd be center-left anywhere else (he won't win here). I'll swing by a ballot dropbox on my way home, I registered my ballot for tracking, and in a few days, I'll know when it's been received and counted via text message. Tell me again what's wrong with every American being able to vote in the same manner, Trumpers.
Yep. And then you have different standards across the state depending on who's watching the door.
