Booster's finance more than just the University.
« on: February 14, 2013, 11:21:30 AM »
As the title above says, i'm sure we're all aware there are sanctions all the time, whether it's a coach giving a kid a ride home and a tee shirt, or a kid gambling at a casino.

Last night i went to Potawatomi to have a little fun, i was playing at a blackjack table for 4 hours with this taller gentleman wearing a milwaukee bucks shirt, i asked him if he worked for their organization.  He claimed he didn't and is a college basketball player for a wisconsin college (D-1)  I was in a reckless mood, and was playing at the big boy table (well for me anyway) and it was a $25 dollar table. This cat walked in with at least 10k in hundreds and was on quite the heater.  He probably cleared 30k by the end of the night. (ive never seen someone win as many hands as he was)  We got pretty close after a while, and i said "man i wish i could have come here when i was in college" he replied with "boosters man, do you really think this is my own money?"

Well by the time he left it was just the dealer and I and the I asked the dealer, "How does he play at tables like these if he's a college student"  the dealer replied with "he's a regular, and a black card member at that"

The reason for my rant is, i really didn't think stuff like this happened in our own backyard, i really only expected this at blueblood programs, and such.  Makes me shake my head thinking that we lost a coach for a ride and tee shirt.

Well .. not many D1 schools in Wisconsin.  You know the MU guys.  That leaves UWM, UWGB, UW.

Seeing as it was a Wednesday .. UWM would be likely.  Any of these guys?

Considering how bad UWM is (6-20), I would say their boosters might want to reconsider their investments.

Agree, he didn't touch much on it, but mentioned it's because he's planning on playing in Europe...

I thought it was possible too until i saw his picture on MU Warriors post, so that confirms he does play ball for UWM.  Unless his parents or family is extremely weathly, i have no reason not to believe it.

Shoot, UWM isn't even worth dropping the dime on.
Have some patience, FFS.

No comment.  Do you know of him too?

Nah, but given the parameters of white dude on UWM that is good enough to play in Europe, it only took about 3 minutes of looking to see that he's the only option.  That's a heck of a run at the blackjack tables.

Wasn't at least part of the reason that Mortenson and Amo got booted along these lines?

Not trying to start controversy, just was shocking to me.  Lots of UW-Madison fans make a huge deal of the firing by Larry and Buzz to our assistant coach for something so small, but something as serious as this is right in our backdoor.

I think mort bet on NCAA games.  Amo like poker, not blackjack, IIRC.

I played poker with Amo a few times actually while he was still on campus.  He was kind of a dick.

I played BJ with Frozena last year, he was really nice, super nice gf, and good looking to boot.  Happy for those two tying the knot.

Maybe because it isn't serious.  The player that you are implicating comes from money and has nothing to worry about financially.  I think maybe you should do some research before suggesting that the money was provided by a "booster."

He only said that the player admitted the money came from boosters.  Re-read the post.

Also, things like this shouldn't be a surprise.  It was fairly well known that the Auburn Football players (when Cam Newton was around), were being funneled money through casinos.  Being directed to specific slots that were rigged for them.  It was my understanding that was part of the reason the FBI was investigating the program.

In the end the people involved are too good at making sure things can't be proven without a doubt.

So you posted the story on a board filled with people who follow WI college bball and then identified the guy.  Please.

Should I give 2 f***s about this kid? I relayed what was conveyed, big deal.  If thee culprit doesn't like it, maybe they shouldn't do illegal things according to NCAA rules.  The person flat out told me, I guess that's my fault right? Isn't the reason for coming to message boards, is to find out or learn more information about your team or teams, or share your opinion with other fans?  Should I send him a email telling him I'm sorry?  Get real.

Maybe he told me it was "off the record" and I didn't hear

A little defensive.  Thanks for confirming that your full of cr@p for saying you we're not trying to start controversy.  Congrats.  You don't have to feel bad about calling the kid out, but just be honest about your intentions.

When Kenny says to "never count your money when you're sitting at the table," that doesn't mean it's OK to count the other dude's money.

If he was doing something wrong, call (317) 917-6222... don't post it on Scoop because this is the last place on earth one should expect a rational discussion about said incident.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.
