  oprah, until i saw this-

http://pagesix.com/2017/05/24/oprah-winfrey-staged-an-intervention-for-jamie-foxx/

she not only saved jaime's career, his dignity, self-worth, but most importantly his life.  i may not agree with her politics, but this was above and beyond.  this is what humans do for other humans.  it takes a lot of courage to do this for someone.  she realized that she was probably one of the few who could this pull off.
good luck and hang in there mr. fox and good on ya oprah!

i may not agree with her politics, but this was above and beyond.  this is what humans do for other humans.

You realize that these two sentences contradict each other.

And even after all her millions of dollars of philanthropy, mentoring of young girls, etc., this is the one thing that makes you a fan?

Don't get me wrong; she has her flaws, including being an insufferable self-promoter, but what she did for Jaime Foxx is far from being her only admirable act.
Have some patience, FFS.

ok, let's try this again.  when i heard she did this for jaime fox, i thought it was very self-less.  it was an act that made me forget about her politics and put them aside.  as i have not been a fan of hers prior to reading this, i have been unaware of all the other "good" stuff she has done.  so to answer your question-yes, this was the one thing that just now, made me stop and take notice(please amend from "being a fan").   i don't follow nor care about her philanthropy and young girl mentoring.  not saying it isn't "good", but with all her money, who knows what her motivations are.  what she did for jaime really had nothing to do with money.  it came from her heart and i find that more admirable than writing a check of sending some of her people out to take some young girls to the zoo or something.

look we can pick this apart and find something i may be missing or inconsistent, but bottom line-i don't like oprah, i don't like her politics. as you said, she is a huge self-promoter and from other stuff i've read, she is a real "beach" behind the scenes...whatever...so when i read this story about her, i thought it deserved recognition despite her not being in my top 100 of admirable people.

A billionaire helps a millionaire with an intervention with other millionaires equals charity.

A billionaire gives away over $40 million to poor kids in around the world, ULTERIOR MOTIVES!!!

Giving to women's causes is a negative for many people.

Women are still looked at as inferior by many. That is why birth control is no longer mandated to be covered by insurance. It is why some men in power are pushing to have womenhood be seen as a pre-existing condition. It is why Viagra will always be covered. It is why many men think that women who are raped should not have the right of choice.

But we get what we ask for.

Because you had to give it all sorts of qualifiers first.

i actually meant for this to be positive.  yes there were a few qualifiers, but let's be honest here-ya'll know where the criticism is coming from and why.

Here's the question....why did you feel the need to put qualifiers at all? Not trying to attack, just curious as to why, if you wanted to be positive you decided to qualify at all. What would have happened if you had simply said "Look at this person and what they've done. Isn't that great, wish more would do this type of thing"

Fair enough, you just became the unlucky victim in my personal crusade to teach people "it's not so much what you say, but how you say it."
