Sounds like he is skipping his previously planned extra year at prep school and joining the team now, per Ben Steele. Very interesting.

Very interesting indeed!
Welcome Caedin.

Anyone know anything bout him? Or do I have to dig through 100 pages of "recruiting" threads

Late riser. Was expected to prep school next year. Big, bouncy and athletic. Would be shocked if doesn’t redshirt
-

6'11" 240-lb physical presence. Averaged a double double last year in high school. Likely projects as a physical defensive presence initially. Had interest from some solid mid-majors & seemed like a breakout candidate as a prep player, but will likely come in pretty raw.
Also not sure they were ready to take him as a 2023 a week ago.
-
Glad we are putting the open scholarships to use. Welcome, Caedin!
-
Seems like a great insurance policy for this season in case someone gets injured. And you can redshirt him to allow him to develop at MU rather than a prep academy. Welcome aboard young man!
-
Also not sure they were ready to take him as a 2023 a week ago.
Hey Brew, what do you mean by this?
-
Great! Welcome!
If he reclassifies, does he play tomorrow?
How about Italy?
-
Thanks Rico and Brew! Much obliged
-
Wow very cool he reclassed.
-
He’s a 2023 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School, so he decided to stay in the 2023 class.
Team played in the championship game of the CIF Open Division last year.
-
Welcome to the family Caedin. Hope you have a passport.
-
Per Steele he is not going to Italy.
Will be interesting to see who plays tomorrow evening.

Raw but the tools are there.
-
It appears that he is the kind of project big that MU fans have been pining for. 6'10, 240 ish. Likes contact and to block shots. To me, based on what has been established, I have to believe he has the lateral quickness to switch onto the perimeter. Perhaps not all 5 positions, but quick enough to stay with large wings, a la Oso.
-
Who?? It's always good to add 6'10.

Maybe an additional piece of the puzzle for this season. Find it interesting that it looks like he will be part of the team immediately. My gut tells me that Shaka thinks he can get some minutes from him this season.
-

LA native. Was a 300 lb DT two years ago. Has dropped 70, 80 pounds when he started basketball. Didn't start basketball until two years ago. Could match Theo John in the weight room. Agile for his size but very raw. We were his best offer by far but he had a good summer. Heardb that he was starting to get calls from some players including Kansas. Was planning to go to prep school but staff convinced him to reclass. I think maybe a redshirt candidate? Him or Amadou
-
Can't wait to see how he fits on the team. Shaka is an incredible recruiter. This is the first time we've had three 6'11" players on the roster.

Can he attack on both ends with ruthless authority in due time?

This comment and your tweet seems to hint MU will be down one of their bigs and that may have speed up this process. Am I reading into this correctly?

Goose,
This MU team has weapons all over the place. Size never hurts.
-
8 minutes of highlights. No dunks, no defense shown. Come and redshirt rather than go to prep school?
Big kid. I look forward to watching his development.

I assume much will be revealed at tomorrow's open gym and Shaka's corresponding media availability.

That’s how I took it as well. Doesn’t sound good.
-
I 100% trust Shaka but he doesn't look like a Shaka type. 6'10" below the rim player? Plenty of very good college players fit that mold but doesn't feel like an MU type. I also know about 1/100 about college hoops than Shaka does.
-
Cryptic comments like that aren’t particularly enjoyable.
-
Ben Gold is not a center, Al is a rail, always need a big body at times to at least defend, like the pickup!

They had the spot for him in 2023 a week ago. I am not sure this is true. They might have only offered him with a RS in 2023 before that. There was only 11 on the roster.
A certain player got some money from a booster who specializes in europeans.
-
He was gonna visit Gonzaga after MU. That is interesting.
-
Looks a tad slow in the clips. But 6'11' 240 is not to be sneezed at.
Didn't really hear about him until the last couple of days but in Shaka we trust.
Nobody wants the kid to have a great MU career more than me and his mom.
Welcome, my man.

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY CAEDIN!!!

Hell Yeah! Welcome to MU!
I hope the comments from Brew simply mean the kid was blowing up last week and we needed to make a move ASAP.

Yeah. Kinda weirded out by it. Went from quite excited to wondering where Oso is.
-
Could be that Oso has made it known he will be gone after this season, but I still think with two open scholarships it made sense to get a long term/high upside big man in the building. Could be an injury to a current big, but I doubt Caedin is ready to be the answer there. Could be what Shooter said about Caedin blowing up and Shaka deciding to move quickly.
Whatever it is, Brew you’ve got us on pins and needles!
-

1. Marquette had one other 2023 offer still out there. https://wvsportsnow.com/what-does-ofri-naveh-bring-to-west-virginia/
2. Gonzaga became interested in Hamilton, thats different than Drexel.

Great! Welcome!
If he reclassifies, does he play tomorrow?

You can practice (pre-foreign tour rules) pre-certification, but an incoming frosh must have his academic eligibility qualification status certified to play on the tour. Due to the timing of all this, would think he’s not formally certified and therefore ineligible to compete overseas.
-
Definitely not just you. I’d rather someone say nothing than put a comment like that out there.
Now I'm concerned a bit.
-
Caedin Hamilton is doomed! 😱😱😱
-
Bottom line, he gives MU 5 more fouls at the center position against Big East centers. Or he redshirts since he will be so far behind the rest of the team. To me he is a good project.
-
Not Oso-related.
Maybe another big man we're all really excited about going into this season. Hope it's nothing major.
-
So either Ben or Al is hurt. Or Ben turned pro. Or Al turned LeDarryll.
-
Now I'm concerned a bit.
I believe we’ll know A LOT more after the open practice.
-
Not Oso-related.
Maybe another big man we're all really excited about going into this season. Hope it's nothing major.
If Ben turned pro it had to have happened in the last couple days because he was in the ring video that mubb posted earlier this week. I’m guessing Ben is hurt???
Sorry, meant to quote the lens
-
Now I'm concerned a bit.
Anybody going to the open practice today that could fill us in on who's possibly injured or missing?
-
It’s so obnoxious, if you know something say something. No need to be cryptic just for the sake of being cryptic and then say “Told you so” when the info comes out.

Agreed. Strange way to go about the situation.
I'd guess everything is fine for this season. Maybe looking to get some experience for a big heading into next season.

Reading the tea leaves, I'm guessing this means Gold was hurt recently and the staff is waiting for a full diagnosis.
How's that for baseless speculation!

Yeah stuff like this makes me hate Scoop sometimes. Just a way of saying "I know something you don't know"
It also lends itself to rumors, which doesn't do anyone any good, players or fans.
-
Who's all going to practice tonight?
-
Marquette's release (https://gomarquette.com/news/2023/8/2/mens-basketball-caedin-hamilton-signs-with-mubb) confirms the redshirt, so apparently he's not coming in as an emergency replacement for anyone this season.

Sorry to be coy, I just didn't want to step on toes of the guy who shared it with me.
The word is Ben got banged up and while it should be minor, Hamilton was brought on sooner just in case.
That's all.

…or, Gonzaga, Kansas and others were showing some interest. So, sign Hamilton now, develop for a year within the program.

Ben seemed to be happy about the commitment via the instagram comments, so the "going euro" likely isn't a thing. Maybe it is an injury. I am guessing the urgency of the signing had a lot more to do about the new players sniffing around and trying to swoop in than anything related to the '23 roster. But maybe more to do with the '24 roster and Oso's prospects. But I have no sources--I'm just a man on the internet with some opinions I've created.
That said, it's gonna be nice though to have a defensive presence like Caedin to have the guys practice against.

I've seen those plans like "have a basketball season" recently not come to fruition, and thats a little bit longer odds to clear than burning a redshirt. I rule in favor of the grammar police.

For those that like to tout that Oso and Kolek could still be @ MU in 24-25, this doesn't eliminate the possibility that one of them will, but it certainly makes it less likely.
https://www.muscoop.com/index.php?page=scholarship
Note: I'm still listing one spot open for both years...but that's really one total scholarship available in each year.

I don't think it makes it less likely. We already saw the staff take players on scholarship that guaranteed players in the fold would have to leave. Taking Hamilton when we're at 12 for next year doesn't mean one of those two will leave, it just means someone will leave before their full eligibility is exhausted.

...seeks out contact...
That tracks with what TAMU said about him being a football player. His nearly non-existent stats as a junior are consistent with only taking up the game a couple of years ago. I am postulating here, but perhaps he was planning on football but got too tall and changed his plan. Lost weight, started learning the basics.
Regardless, coach him up and get him ready for 24-25. At this point, that looks like quite the roster.

Sounds right. He was a 6'5" 300-lb defensive tackle not too long ago. Now listed as 5-6 inches taller and 60-70 pounds lighter.

Interested in people’s thoughts on how, as Tower mentioned, Shaka noted his relishing physicality and contact, as compared to the current team. Was this intended also to motivate the roster, given our penchant for sometimes shying away from contact and ultimately losing to a more physical team in MSU? I understand it wasn’t necessarily the Spartans’ physicality which led to our NCAA demise, but I just wonder if our guys are challenging each other in this regard. It seems like it’s one of our very few Achilles’ heels going into this season. I feel like Shaka maybe was issuing a challenge while he vividly described Caedin’s game.
-
I thought of Sanogo, when Shaka talked about physicality.

Shaka seems to really value Cody and his recruiting abilities.
Now we just need Mr. Hatt to smile a little bit at the end of that bench 😂
