latest Bracketology: 9 seed

Lundardi just updated the bracket and has us an 9 seed playing Mizzou. Could make for a good rematch from a few years back.

Playing Mizzou? Don't like the matchup against that press.

It's also quite strange that he would put us as a 9 seed in Pittsburgh's bracket. I thought the selection committee tries not to have teams from the same conference play before the Sweet Sixteen...

It used to be elite 8, but that went out the window.  Since the top 32 is the "third round" now maybe that's how they rationalize it.

With 11 teams in the tournament it's mathematically impossible to avoid intra-conference games prior to the sweet sixteen, especially when considering seeding requirements.

How? There are 16 pods. Don't put more than one BE in each.

I've been saying for a while that I think we'll be a 9 seed.  Anyhow, my arm hurts from all the back patting.

Nonetheless, looking at Mizzu's defensive profile on Kenpom - they don't scare me much.  They're good aft forcing turnovers - but really bad at everything else (and mediocre overall):  http://kenpom.com/team.php?team=Missouri

I'd take the matchup gladly, and think we'd have a good shot.  But alas - until we know the actual matchup, it's not worth thinking about too much.

Marquette also makes seeding difficult due to the number of teams we played in the regular season making the tournament.

getting an 8-9 seed is worst case scenario. if pitt would be our 2nd round match up, hopefully djo crosses over mcghee like kemba did today! let's get back to the 10 vs temple and then BYU is our 2. we would have a much better chance of making the sweet 16 there. but it's not really worth getting into since these are only projections. can't wait until sunday to see where we actually land, hopefully 1st weekend in chicago.

I'm with you

It's not often that fans will wish for a worse seed, but i'd for sure rather be a 10th seed than 8-9 and might even prefer being an 11th seed.

This year especially. I don't know that there's really that much different between many of the teams from the 6-line to the 11-line. But the second round difference of the 3-line to the 1-line is immense.
