If we are still indeed pursuing another guard for 2009, might we try to make another play for Abdul Gaddy?

Which only shows to go ya, kids want to play for the coach and not necessarily for the school.

Yes, coaches don't want to play for kids.

Exactly.

He is only considering UCLA and Washington with UCLA as the more likely choice.

It should come as no suprise. It is all about the coach. That is hardly a revelation.

"I grew up an Arizona fan.  In fact, one of my earliest memories of basketball was that 1997 national championship team with Miles Simon and Mike Bibby.  I wrote a letter to Lute Olson and he sent me a signed program."

T-Cubed has already peed himself by taking his current gig. But, chances are Buzz has also sent off a postcard or two to Tucson.

Thought it was bad when TC left and we lost Taylor and Williams.  Arizona just lost three recruits: Abdul Gaddy, Solomon Hill and Mike Moser, all highly, highly ranked studs.  They will also probably lose Chase Budinger to NBA next year.  Ouch.

AZ and IU should play in 2009 to settle the question of which program is a bigger mess.

Oh man...TC to Zona is a dream: "Now introducing Arizona's new coach....Tan Cream!"

But maybe Zona should've held onto Pastner. Or maybe Pastner saw the writing on the board.

It's going to be interesting how this big elite program vacancy starts the coaching dominoes this season and/or begins a vacuum suck of prospects from the West.

They would be in a lot better shape if they could've kept KO.

I disagree that kids pick coaches and not schools. There are certain coaches that put kids in NBA and they get a real following. Lute was one of those guys. But, you can count the Lute's on two hands in college ball.

Top players go where they have the best chance to get paid to play at some point. Look at UW, if Ryan left today they would not lose a player or a recruit. Kids go to UW because they want to play in Madison.

It just depends on the kid.  Nick Williams followed Crean to Indiana.  Michael Beasley stayed at Kansas State instead of following Huggy Bear to West Virginia.  All depends on the kid.

Beasley's decision was coach based.  He originally picked UNC-Charlotte because of assistant coach Dalonte Hill.  When Huggins hired Hill at KSU, Beasley switched to KSU.  When Huggins left KSU, Hill stayed at KSU under Frank Martin, so Beasley stayed at KSU.

I agree that it depends on the kid. These kids pick a school for a ton of stupid reasons. My point was there a hundred reasons why kids pick schools and the coach is only part of the decision in most cases. If I was 18 year old kid I pick it on the best place to get laid, but that's me.

I agree with this 100%.

Recruiting is an imperfect art.

Some coaches certainly do better at it than others, but let's just be honest that a coach may do everything right with a kid and still lose him to another school for some reason only known to the kid.

You cannot give a coach a free pass for missing on recruits, however you cannot solely hold a head coach responsible if he misses on a few recruits.
