The Al, the Big East and Frivolity

A couple of things stood out Friday night at Marquette Madness.

"It would be great if the men's team could play a non-conference game inside the place, but it could never happen, AD Larry Williams said. It seats about 5,000. Marquette has almost twice that many season-ticket holders."

"The men's team came out with coach Buzz Williams, dressed in a white track suit and down 36 pounds from last season."

Didn't Buzz drop 40 lbs. before last season?  He may have been heavy two seasons ago, but he didn't have 75 lbs. to lose.

Um, I dont think so. Last year and the year before were better than this year's madness.

The 33 responses to the thread about last year's madness (titled "Last Night was Awesome") beg to differ.

Well, maybe I just didn't read that thread!  Bleh...  No but seriously maybe I am just having selective memory, but it seems like many years that people talk about it being a disappointment, etc.

In Sultan's defense, last year was once in a blue moon chance on happening. There will never be a Madness like that again.

Usually they get boring with low production value and plenty of hokey crap.

Hunt didn't note Jake Thomas won the dunk contest.

We came in the middle of Otule's song, and honestly this was one of the most-packed/loudest MM's I can remember. I've been going the last six years. I'm not sure if it was dead earlier, but I thought it was a pretty good crowd. The Gangham style by the Women's team was pretty loud as loud as I think it's ever gotten for them.
