Apparently he's had a change of heart:

Brian Snow @BSnowScout
Scout.com has learned that D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera will return to Georgetown after initially declaring for the draft

After taking a look at his pro prospects, maybe the advantage of finishing up his degree without taking a hiatus first won the day.  Good news for the Big East.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Huge news for the Big East. Georgetown could be the early favorite to win the conference.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

I got the sense Vander had a lot of voices in his ear giving bad advice. Pretty sure he wasn't the only guy Buzz brought to Marquette that left prematurely because of bad advice. I hope most of those influences have been weeded out, but I'm not sure that's possible in college basketball anymore.

He's already had a 10-day and has established himself as one of the better players in the NBADL and is only 22.  Let it go

Never said it was a great decision, but there is no need to keep harping on it.  He landed on his feet and isn't playing in Mongolia with no chance at seeing the NBA.

So make $30-50K and spend as much (or little) time as you want, whenever you want to, at perfecting your skill (basketball) or be forced to attend class, tutor sessions, and make nothing for it. Hmm. People who assume that HS he returned to MU for his senior season he would've been drafted are silly. Pay attention to how many seniors get drafted this year and even more attention to how many shooting guards that can't shoot get drafted this year. Newsflash: if he can't shoot while having unlimited time to practice that skill, he wasn't going to figure it out while practicing the skill only while not sitting in a classroom or tutor session. Oh yeah, and he'd be $40k? Behind where he'd be now.
