Kolek planning to go pro
Jay Bilas has declared freedom of movement dead in college basketball -- stating online and on air that officiating has negatively affected the game:"The most important and impactful factor in the drop in level of play has been officiating...The officials, generally and overall, do a great job. However, officials are not allowed to call what they want, when they want...the officials also answer to the rules committee and the directives and emphases thrust upon them. To this point in the season, the supervisors and the rules committee have failed the officials, and, by extension, have failed the game."https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/28409605/jay-bilas-college-basketball-rankings-2019-20-version-20This topic seems to be getting a lot of attention lately:https://www.newsobserver.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/luke-decock/article239608328.htmlhttps://www.si.com/college/duke/basketball/coach-k-louisville-brutal-gamehttps://www.postandcourier.com/sports/carolina/sec-conspiracy-against-gamecocks-no-frank-martin-s-team-just/article_c2ec3dcc-41f0-11ea-8eb3-db4368efe84c.htmlhttps://bleacherreport.com/articles/2872606-extended-3-point-arc-is-contributing-to-unpredictable-college-basketball-seasonAccording to the last article, 2019-20 is the least efficient season in KenPom history.
Maybe it’s just me but I feel like Bilas has been on an officiating attack crusade for a while now, similar to WhoaJoes spread the wealth and stop over feeding Markus crusade
Why did you have to go and summon It?
I wish the college game was officiated like the NBA game. Rarely does one become a whistlefest like we see in college.I'm all for freedom of movement, but there are some calls that the contact doesn't impede or have any effect on the play. Let that sh*t go, keep the game moving.
TAMUI do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.
Agreed. I've long believed that the best way to ref a game would be to have the refs call travelling like they do in college and freedom of movement calls like they do in the NBA.
The biggest difference in college over pros is consistency. Freelancers with a different boss in every conference versus a centralized command and control.
This is exactly the issue. I really like Bilas analysis in general and how he usually adds a bit of humor to it. In this case he stepped up on the bully pulpit but only did half the job. NCAA officiating is in fact badly broken. The freedom of movement thing is the latest symptom. Inconsistency is the latent disease. I'd really like a power conference like the Big East to take control of the issue and fix the problem, at least for the Big East season.
