Best Mob film?

I'm gonna go with G-1..... but maybe Scoopers think Goodfellas or another option?  I have never understood why some people think Carlo shouldn't have been whacked?  I vehemently disagree.  :)

What brings you to this conclusion?  The Lufthansa Heist scenes or when Pesci got mad at Billy Batts?

The Godfather is way better than Goodfellas. And I love Goodfellas. It’s just that The Godfather is a top five movie of all time.

I'm with you FBM.  And I assume you are a Clemenza fan and had no issues with him overseeing/whacking Paulie and Carlo?  We also can't forget "Enzo the Baker".  He played a key role with regards to Sollozzo and McCluskey.  :)

I mean look at this scene. The lighting. The sounds. It’s damn near perfect.

Two tremendous scenes!  Virgil Sollozzo did not anticipate the ultimate result of Michael taking a leak.

Morrry getting an ice pick rammed into his eardrum when he thinks he's "goin ta da dinah" is the essence of Goodfellas.

Fair point.  And his wigs were able to handle hurricane winds.  But I'm still gonna disagree with you DTD.

In my background (Irish) there's a saying that there are two kinds of Irish-----lace curtain Irish and shanty Irish. And the connotations are just as you'd think they are.

I always viewed Godfather as kind of the "lace curtain" story of the Mob, whereas Goodfellas was the more blue collar version------closer to the street, rawer. More violence.

The Godfather isn't even the best Godfather movie.

1. Goodfellas
2. Godfather 2
3. Godfather
4. Miller's Crossing
5 (tie) Casino
Untouchables

I think that's fair but these are two separate and distinct stories.  We all know you have a little Pesci in you when you get upset.  :)

Before I forget, I'm going to give an honorable mention to Donnie Brasco.

By the end, I was actually sympathizing with Pacino

Maybe not the best, but I liked Donnie Brasco.

Would The Usual Suspects be considered a mob flick?  I'll defer to the experts.

I actually don't like Godfather 2 much.

Was waiting for someone to say this.  Its aged remarkably well and its got a couple incredible performances from heavy hitters.  Love that movie.  The scene in the train station with Costner, Andy Garcia, and the baby carriage is all time.

Would The Usual Suspects be considered a mob flick?  I'll defer to the experts.

I'd say no.  Crime/organized crime, sure.  But not a mob film.

The Departed.

Like The Usual Suspects, I'd call this a crime movie, but not a mob movie.
