Creighton Barreling
« on: February 24, 2016, 09:08:30 PM »
1.   The 2-3 zone for Creighton made MU stand still.
2.   Henry was mugged all day.   Creighton is a borderline dirty team.
3.   Poorly officiated game in general.   Falling to the ground with the ball and no travel?  When did that start?
4.   Great defensive job on Watson.   The difference between the two games.
5.   But no points off of the bench.
6.  Anybody still frustrated about lack of improvement or lack of toughness.... just stop.
7.  After giving up the lead and dodging a hail of bullets, MU made just enough winning plays.
8.  Gird your loins for Nova.       Fire up!

Any road win for this team is a good win. They are improving.

Duane came up big down the stretch...what was it? Like 6 straight points from him? Where was that Duane in crunch time in some other games...

Agree on #2.  I rarely jump on the "rip the refs" train, but Henry was abused all night.

Creighton now my second least favorite team in BE (the Hall are my least).

Hack all over the court sneakily then flail when they are fouled.  Weak sauce.

Btw, whats the odds that someone in Zeirden's family is a meth head?

Duane won us the game when everyone else was capitulating. Kid should be options A, B, and C in the final two minutes.

Big win, but that zone killed us, too many turnovers again. We need to get much better at breaking the press. Agree with the bad officiating and creighton  being a borderline dirty team.

Agree.  Duane makes plenty of mistakes...but he clearly wants the ball down the stretch.

I have never been one to complain about the officials. Some calls go your way and some don't.

But this year has seen Marquette get jobbed consistently. At home we get no calls and touch fouls against us at the whistle. On the road they don't call blatant fouls when our players drive the basket, and then proceed to call ticky tack touch fouls on MU on defense.

We consistently get screwed by the refs and it costs us games.

That being said....so glad we beat those guys. They are quickly becoming the team I want to beat the most.

Duane led down the stretch.   No argument.    He isn't afraid of the moment and is willing to take the ball at crunch time.    It worked tonight.     He has taken flack when it hasn't, but he has gotten right back into the saddle.    But Henry had a better overall game.   And if he had been able to get a bleeping call, he would have gone for 30.

for the 26th(?) time - exactly right on your observances....one tweak one add:
#2 - their bigs are not artistic but i wouldn't call them dirty.  the technical could be a flopper out flopping a flopper

#9 - wow! the lower bowl in Omaha (Blue Vests?) clears out really quick

I compare Duane to Blue his sophomore year. Trying to step up in crunch time, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Probably next year he takes that next step and becomes a star player.

Expecting to blow out any team on the road is just silly.

I'm biased, I have a kid currently at Creighton and watch most of their games....but Creighton is far from borderline dirty.  They just played a physical game tonight and refs allowed it.  They have a great home environment and the program is on the rise...also I have seen them as a very good sportsmanship team.

That being said....woo....frickin....hoo!!!!!  Way to go MU!

How did we win with one bucket in 11 minutes in 2nd half stretch.  Creighton bad, and we were tougher.

Exactly. They are my least favorite as well. Nice to see us knock them out of tournament contention.

Not on defense. He was absolutely terrible in the post when Luke went out. Just painfully bad. Let both Groselle and Hanson get on his back shoulder literally every time down. The main reason it was close in the first was because of terrible interior defense. You can point to Luke not being in there, but for me it's far more on Henry for not stepping up.

Fair point.   If MU would have lost, I probably would have been kvetching about Henry's post efense.

Creighton press bother us. It was a good learning experience for us, since we survived it. However, I do not want to play St. John's again, because overall St. John's is a lot quicker than Creighton.
