I honestly don't know who to pick.

1) Hank.  Double double, a huge bucket.
2) Luke.  Huge down low, huge bucket
3) Cheatham.  Played well offensively and made it look like Koenig was the freshman point guard in this game.
4) Sandy.  Solid as always, and made Hayes look soft as can be.

Great all around effort by the team.  Need to make some free throws and rebound better.

Oh Henry.  No doubt.

but shout outs to:

Cohen.  Shut down Hayes and embarrassed him.
D.Will.  9 pts on only 4 shots with 4 assists and 2 steals.
Cheatham.  For shutting down Koenig.

Luke, for a big rebound at the end.

Henry's double double was worthy. Luke was huge. Haanif's clutch tip near the end massive. But my vote goes to...

SANDY COHEN for making Nigel Hayes his BITCH!

Henry was great, but I go with Cohen.

Held Hayes to 4 for 18 from field.  Cheatham held Koenig to 3 for 11 and played a lot of minutes due to Carter having a terrible game.

I cannot vote for players that miss the front end of one and ones that could seal the game. It is hard to choose between Ellenson & Fischer. I am going with Fischer.

Torn between Henry and Sandy. Henry had a double double, and he stepped up and played Big Boy defense on Brown when he found his midrange jumper. Sandy made Nigel's day hard all game long.

Haanif gets honorable mention for being cool and collected at the point in the game's toughest moments.

Henry because he was the emotional leader out there. Got us some huge buckets and boards.

But Sandy deserves it as well. As BrewCity aptly put it, he made Hayes his biitch

We may need to rethink some of our comments about Sandy being the prototypical worst starter.

He may be statistically (though 9.3 ppg/4.1 rpg/3.3 apg is pretty darn good) but if Sandy's the worst, we're going to be a really damn good team.

Getting shut down by Hannif Cheatham

Quite a few highlights in there...

Quote from: wikipedia
  • Koenig was a McDonald's All American nominee which is nothing like being an actual McDonald's All American. Word is that Bronson was nominated for that award but his father Paul.
  • Koenig arrived in Madison with high expectations but his inability to overcome the stout defense of Hannif Cheatham reduced his play to that of just another also-ran Bo Ryan recruit.
  • He is opposed to using Indian names as mascots, and is particularly against the Washington Redskins.
  • As Bronson has failed to live up to his advance billing, largely the product of Paul's incessant bragging about his son, the younger Koenig is just now coming to terms with life after basketball where he puts that Madison diploma to work selling cars at Crazy Jim's Auto Lobby.

I'll say Henry, but only by thisclose over Luke.

I mean, it was Luke who grabbed Henry's miss and scored the winning bucket. And it was Luke who grabbed the FT rebound to all but secure the victory. Plus he had 12 points, 8 rebounds and played great interior defense all game.

Here's the AP lead:

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Luke Fischer scored 12 points and converted an offensive rebound with 27 seconds left, Wisconsin missed a contested 3 on its next possession and Marquette held on for a 57-55 win on Saturday over its in-state rival.

Henry's not even in that lead, nor should he be. But yes, Henry did have the better all-around game, all game long, and that does matter.

Special thumbs-up to Cohen for his work against Hayes. I just wish he had stepped up and made those FTs.

Outstanding!

Koenig was moved into the Badgers starting lineup for the 2014–15 season after an injury to point guard Traevon Jackson. Koenig arrived in Madison with high expectations but his inability to overcome the stout defense of Hannif Cheatham reduced his play to that of just another also-ran Bo Ryan recruit.

Carter had Koenig when he was in, when he wasn't Cheatham had Koenig.  Wilson was covering Showalter.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Duane shut down Koenig?  What game were you watching?

Carter had Koenig when he was in, when he wasn't Cheatham had Koenig.  Wilson was covering Showalter.

It was a mistake, my apologies.  I meant to go back and change it, but in the excitement forgot.

+1,000 as per ESPN. Will ESPN be his agent??  :P

ESPN is all about promoting stars whether it is the real deal like LeBron or overrated hoaxes like Tebow or Rousey.

Nigel Hayes, for being softer than Charmin.

And that is why I am not voting for Sandy.  Sandy played well, but this is the third time I have watched UW this year, and Nigel has pretty much looked like he did yesterday.

The key takeaway is that this was truly a team win. That is something Wojo, through the coach speak, has actually been saying is what he wants this program to be all about.
