I would have thought one would have to be willfully ignorant to not know what Walker is talking about.

But maybe you're right. The administration's issues aren't about players appearing in the police blotter, the sex assault allegations, the pulling of scholarship(s), the player suspensions, etc.
What's really got them steamed are Buzz's personality quirks.

So you are now making assumptions about what the rough edges pertain to - the same rough edges you asked me to provide evidence of LW ever making statements about.  Think Al's guys never went to bars?  So Al didn't suspend kids, but instead got in fistfights with his players?  Think kids weren't helped along academically in Al's years?

And yes, some administrations clearly overreact - notice you wrote allegations - ironically the players were never charged...yet we have a host of Catholic priests guilty of molesting boys.  MU has long had a history of all sport athletes being underage in bars.  Buzz never suspended a player prior to the arrival of LW (other than permanently benching Hazel for his transgression.)  But hey, clearly some people see it the same way you do, and feel the need to make a mountain out of a mole hill.  Generally knee jerk, overreactive measures, never produce good outcomes.

First, you're absolutely right, none of Al's players were ever picked up for being in a bar while underaged.

Of course the drinking age was only 18 back then, but why bring up that inconvenient fact?

Guess we can move on the Larry's more recent quote pertaining to Buzz's rough edges...you know...the kind of rough edges that made Al McGuire probably our most famous figure, and largely beloved throughout all of college basketball.  But hey, in the politically correct world of today and apparently this administration....we need to smooth out those rough edges, because our head coach may irrevocably offend somebody....or have his head explode from tying his tie too tight.

Just for the record: those weren't "more recent" comments. If you listened to the interview with Walker, it was clear that the "rough edges" comments came in that same interview in February that originally got everyone so hot and bothered.

The drinking age was lowered (around 1970)on the argument that we were not allowing 18 year olds to drink, but sending them to Vietnam to die. At the same time the age to be considered an adult was lowered to 18 from 21. At some point the age was 19 and it may have been for beer only. After the war ended and to many young people were dying from drinking, the age went back up even though they were still considered to be adults. You are an adult at age 18, but at age 18 you often do not make good decisions especially if you have been drinking.

Good point.  Just as it is a good point to acknowledge since the raise of the drinking age to 21, MU athletes of age and underage have long frequented on and off campus bars, the vast majority of whom drank alcohol - just as what goes on at universities all over the country.  Yet in our rough edges program, none of our underage guys were even drinking!!  But hey...we better smooth out those rough edges...can't have these guys showing up on the police blotter for being underage in a bar.  God forbid.
