Buzz's Potential Assistants
« on: April 08, 2008, 12:49:23 PM »
Since it seems like everyone is going to spend the next 3 years debating whether Buzz was the right fit, I'd like to steer the conversation another direction and talk about potential assistant coaches.

Since we are going to need an assistant to help build our Wisconsin and Illinois recruiting ties, here would be a great name I think to start the process.  It's a very familar name to many of those who follow WI HS baskeball.

As an Oshkosh West grad who had the opportunity to work with Lance and his father Steve Randall, I think he would make a great hire not only from what he could bring to the coaching side but also from a personal side.  Coming from SLU and Loyola he would seem like a great fit for the Marquette Community.

Good topic ....

Another person that hopefully gets consideration is Brian Wardle. He would be a good fit on the staff, (MU alum, has assistant coaching experience and has the necessary recruiting contacts in both Illinois and Wisconsin).

Of the three assistants, one definitely needs to be an X and O's guy and the other must be someone familiar with local recruiting (Illinois & Wisconsin). Buzz can't have all the assistants come from the Texas region.

Woody and Mr. Potato Head......  Sorry, couldn't resist.

How about going back to "Brent" now that we are a big-time D1 coach???  I'd be more inclined to let Brent talk to my HS Bball son than a "Buzz".

Would this make Tom Crean "Evil Emperor Zurg" now?  ;D

Ray McCallum who is about to become unemployed at IU.  Former head coach, Big Ten assistant, knows the Midwest very well, and, I am told has a son who is going to be a top-flight player.

From my view Brian Barone would likely be retained.  Not only a former MU player, but like Buzz has Texas ties.

Isn't there a rule about Bo Ellis working, at least temporarily, for every coach MU hires?

If Buzz decides to recruit Lance Randall, then I'll get confused when both of them stand up on the sideline!

Lance Randall

Though I'd love for him to hire someone from NYC, he needs to lock down Wisconsin recruits so he'd better look locally.
