WV's Truck Bryant Breaks Foot In Practice
« on: March 24, 2010, 12:10:58 PM »
It looks like we aren't the only team with foot injuries.  If only we could have beaten Washington.....

Quote
West Virginia point guard Darryl "Truck" Bryant broke his right foot during practice Tuesday and will miss the rest of the NCAA tournament.

Bryant has started 31 games and averages 9.3 points and is second on the team in assists (3.1) and 3-pointers (40).

He will likely be replaced in the starting lineup by junior Joe Mazzulla, who is more of a playmaker than a scorer. Mazzulla averages 2.2 points and 2.3 assists per game

Mazzulla is a good player. I think people will be surprised with how he fills in.

Bryant or no Bryant, I will forever believe we would have beaten WVU.

Except he's an offensive liability.  Basically 4 on 5 when they are on offense.

Injured in practice? Either this was Tom Crean's fault or there is a problem with the floor in WV's practice facility! Maybe both!

I vote for both.  I believe former president Bush had something to do with it as well.
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

I predict this will have ZERO impact for WVU.  He was not really a huge contributor for them.  They've still got Ebanks, Butler, Jones, and Smith.

He's their only guard.  Mazzulla is crap and will get owned once they put Overton on him.

What a perfect lead in to a story this weekend about how Joe Mizzulla went off for 20+ points against Wazu.

If a (basically) one-armed Mazzulla goes off for 20 against Washington I'll eat my shoe.

I hope it doesnt affect them much. I got WVU in the ship and I am very much in the drivers seat for the big cash.

Bigger disadvantage?

Syracuse without Onuaku?

WV without Bryant?

I vote Syracuse. I think they will blow by Butler but it'll be tough to beat KState without him. If X beats KState, then they might not even need him again.

wow, it makes me feel like we were 2 points away from Elite 8

I hate for any player to be injured, but I have to admit the news sent a new wave of depression for me over the Washington loss.  As much trouble as WVU had with our defense, I don't see how they would have handled it without ANY point guards.  Sure Butler can bring it up the court, but letting small guards - whether Marquette's or Washington's, engage him 30 feet from the basket takes away so much of his game.

I thought the Washington game was 50-50 and that New Mexico would be a pushover for us and we would probably be just a little short against WVU before the injury.  With the injury, it just seems to me that the path was so clear to the Elite 8 if we could have just pulled out the Washington game.

I think Syracuse is fine and will make the final.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).
