http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/13191173/sacramento-kings-offer-wesley-matthews-four-year-64-million-contract
Needing time to await DeAndre Jordan/Lamarcus Aldridge to play out, the Mavs havent plunked down an offer, but if he bolts it may be Sacramento or Dallas.
It'd be nice to know if the achilles is healed, but $50mil plus ensures a healthy wallet, in any case

The latest from the Oregonian. He will be missed.

Hmmm... I wonder how close he and LaMarcus were in Portland?
-
Would be cool if Aldridge and Wes move together. Sounds like he's leaving some money on the table for a better situation vs. Sacramento.
-
Umm so it looks like Wes had his contract bumped to 4/70. No way in hell I pay high that contract but Wes has proven me wrong before many times. He's gonna love Dallas.
-
cuban appears to be a stand up guy in this arrangement
-
Cuban rewarding Wes for not straying. Alluded to that this morning on his "dust up" deal. But said I can't repeat what Wes said, but suffice it to say he's honoring his commitment despite DeAndre's change of heart. Told Mavs fans they were gonna love him. Wes is a stud. Regardless of how he plays good dude and good things happen to good people.
-
So...
Wade 20 mil
Jimmy 18 mil
Wes 17.5 mil
Jae 7 mil
We done good
-
Always good when someone wants to come play with you.

Although there have been steady rumblings in league circles in recent weeks that a return to the Utah Jazz is also a possibility for Williams, sources say Dallas has emerged as his preferred destination, in part because he could reunite with new Mavs guard Wesley Matthews, his former Jazz teammate.

hey wait, where's vander??
-
hey wait, where's vander??
And Novak, and Buycks, and the elite game changer?
-
hey wait, where's vander??
I know this is an attempt at a joke, but look at it this way.
Vander is on the Bulls Summer League team in Vegas, and that league starts today.
Vander has NBA experience under his belt.
Vander is only 22 years old, the same age that many graduating Seniors are.
He has a lot of run-room left in him.

+1 I don't know why this needs to turn into trashing our other players.

the kid has played in the nba, advanced MU in the ncaa tourney, turned down UW to come to MU, and could make plenty of money playing overseas if he so chooses. whether or not he should have stayed another year is debatable...but not many can say they ever played in the nba...

+13
He's seen the floor for 2 different NBA teams. Has been a consistent standout in the NBADL, and as mentioned, he's only 22. His path may have upset some, but unless he blew up even further and was a late first rounder, which is debatable, he likely would have had a similar experience, even as a 2nd round pick. People need to let it go and cheer for him to get his shot like they do with Jerel.

Let's say we were fine without vander in 13-14. Do you think everybody would cheer harder for him since then they wouldn't view his departure as the beginning of a major two year slump.

Yes. Also might want to undo the auto correct on Vander lol.

I don't follow the Mavs or watch Shark Tank so my POV on Cuban is solely through when he does something to hit the headlines and for the life of me I can't figure him out....he's a paradox.
Is he 51% a** clown and 49% stand up guy, 49% a** clown and 51% stand up guy, or is the a** clownery simply PR/marketing?

When in doubt always lean towards a** clown. I do think he is a very smart a** clown and good business person.

I think that is a lot of it. I've heard some very positive stories from people who have had interactions with him, including stuff as small as someone running into him on vacation at Cuban coming over to fist bump him cause he is an IU alum and had a shirt on. He seems like a pretty stand up due.
He has WAY more self-awareness than a lot of people in his wealth/success bracket. What he did for the Mavs was nothing short of impressive, so him being a boisterous loudmouth when it comes to that isn't too big of deal to me.
-
It looks like Cuban gave Wes a loyalty bonus out of the extra $$ laying around with D Jordan gone...$70 mil/4yrs...Avg $17.5/yr
WOW if Achilles doesn't heal he'll still have enough Gty'd $ to start the Wes Matthews Band

For starters, someone who wants to be in Dallas.

Cuban's reaction to that comment

Yeah wasn't intending for vander and the other guys to get bashed.
Just thought it was cool we had 4 guys enter free agency and all 4 got paid very handsomely for their contributions.

wow, you guys are edgy i like the guy, i think he has talent and wish him nothing but the best. i believe with the right team/fit, he could end up doing alright. nothing but good things putting another MU guy in the show

You mock the guy and then call us names. Okay bub.

Yup. While I'm sure it wasn't him personally replying to the email and rather someone else doing it for him, a friend of mine sent him an email for a class project (something along the lines of asking him what it takes to be a good leader) and he got a personal response within 10 minutes. Even though it was probably some intern, it still says a lot that Cuban makes sure to get a response out to someone who obviously wasn't going to be able to do anything for him.
I used to dislike Cuban a lot just based on what I saw of Mavericks games. I've started to like him a lot more the more I've learned about/seen him.
