OT: Best Pizza while at Marquette
« on: April 14, 2007, 09:41:29 PM »
I was out last night in Oakland, California and I had a pizza with molinari pepperoni. It reminded me of Lucci's pizza - man that was good.

Angelo's was the WORST!
Pizza Shu/ittle was better but not by much!

I remember a place called Pizza Pi's nee Pizza Joe's that not only sold pizza by the slice but had kick a$$ wings!

(Then they got bought out and turned into A Taste of Philly - which I still reminsce about...even Pat's in South Philly couldn't hang a hat on ATOP!)

In the 50's and 60's, Balistreri's and the place next to the Eagles Club were my two favorites.

It was Luccis.  I think we ate a lot of Luccis when we were at Marquette.

I was there in 1986-1990 ~ Pizza shuttle and dominos had the marketing & deals, but real pizza could be had at luccis.

Remind me where Guillianos was located.

Remind me where Guillianos was located.

I loved Lucci's as well - - but Guil's was on campus.  It was on the north side of Wells between 16th and 17th, close to the middle of the block.  There was an alley along side (Amigos a bit further east on Wells, right next to Murphy's).  I think Econoprint (or similar) was next to Guilianos to the west.

I dont think half of those places even exist. There is no good pizza in Milwaukee at all, or in Wisconsin for that matter.

yes there is. let me guess, you haven't really looked or expanded your horizons beyond the campus or downtown area.

try Zafiro's.

Zaffiro's is good of the paper thin variety where one can eat a whole pie in one setting.  It is good pizza.  I believe it is fair to say Milwaukee lacks good pizza places however.

Well I don't live in Milwaukee anymore, my family is from NYC and the lack of authentic NY style pizza always frustrated me. I always enjoyed Papa Rosa's if any.

Hall store Tombstone Sausage pizza was great and you could pay with "points". Because of budgetary issues, I never really tried anything else other than Papa Johns and Pizza Shuttle. About the only other pizza I remember was Calderon Club. Was pretty good.

Was Lucci's the one that delivered and had pepperoni's that formed little cups filled with grease?  They looked like half filled coffee cups.  Not that it prevented me from eating it!

As far as my favorite, I think I would have to lean toward's Guliano's too.  But I have to admit, the cheap Tombstone's from the hall stores fufilled many a late night craving at a small price (although we had to pay cash in the late 80's).

Milwaukee lacks a good NY Style pizza place, my preference as well.  Much of the Midwest struggles in this departmnent too.  Chicago has very very few and they are serviceable, but not preferred.

exactly - luccis had the pepperoni that rolled up into cups of grease. Oh brother that was good.

Ok - angelos was the upscale place (for back then) across from Murphs and Guilis was the place next to Amigos that tried to use their pizza dough to make chocolate chip cookies.  I remember guilis would not card the table, so you could order a pitcher from the counter with a fake id and bring it back.

Never liked the rocky's pizza chain near Hegartys - not authentic.

the best in milwaukee is definetely balisteri's (sp)...pizza is good but the fried eggplant is amazing.

however milwaukee pizza for the most part is extremely disgusting.  ny style is the best.  my friends for some reason all liked eduardos but you couldnt pay me to eat that crap.  ick.

i dont understand how anyone could eat chicago style either, it is horrible.  too much dough, too much sauce.  upset stomach after half a slice.

I prefer Angelo's pizza if anything in milwaukee. Although Pizza Man on the east side is also fairly decent. However none of them compare to the Gino's East pizza I had last night after the cubs game

Angelo's, Zaffiro's, Pizza Man, Pizza Shuttle, Balistreri's (aka Bluemound Inn)... All good choices.

How can you hate Chicago pizza?  NY style pizza is a joke.....no cheese, a speck of sauce and cracker crust.

Chicago-style pizza is superior.

That being said, the pizza options in Milwaukee were really bad for the most part....not surprising considering the ethnic demographics of the city....

Pizza Shuttle...that brings back memories of freshman year.  Let's just say that ten guys eating that stuff in a McCormick dorm room during the Super Bowl led to a rather gassy atmosphere.....

Angelo's was good, for the atmosphere and bar if nothing else, and the pizza was pretty good.

NYC pizza is a joke.

Chicago style is the best pizza because everyone knows that. Nothing beats the buttery crust, the chunky tomatoes, a slab of sausage on top.

I concur.  I live in New York but let me tell ya --  New York pizza sucks.....u can eat it and still lose weight (as Billy Crystal once said) and its primary ingredient is grease.  Good New York pizza is an oxymoron
