Scoop Bracketology - SCOOPER HELP NEEDED!!!
« on: March 15, 2019, 12:58:22 PM »
It's time for Scoop Bracketology once again.  This year, things are a bit different... I am going to build a bracket based on the Bracket Matrix s-curve, but I need people who can help "scrub" the bracket, i.e. look for violations of the bracketing guidelines.

The bracket will follow the s-curve, and then I'll assign first round and regional sites according to geography of the lowest-seed in that pod/region.  I will identify any violations in conference placement (first four protected to separate regions) and any potential home-crowd disadvantages for the top 4 seeds, but I need help from Scoopers who can take on one of the following assignments:

EDIT: Let's make this easy.  Just tell me where I f#*ked up based on the following.

BRACKET ----> VERSION 1

1) Identify any first-round re-matches between non-conference opponents.

2) Identify potential Second-Round matchups between conference opponents who played each other twice during the regular season and conference tournament.

3) Identify potential Second-Round or Sweet 16 matchups between conference opponents who played each other three times during the regular season and conference tournament.

4) Identify any teams (or one-bid conferences) currently outside their natural region who were also outside their region in the 2018 and 2017 tournaments.

5) Identify any first-round games between teams who played each other in the 2018 or 2017 NCAA Tournament.

For more rules, guidelines, etc. see:
https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2018-10-19/how-field-68-teams-picked-march-madness

Please let me know ASAP if you can take on any of the above (and which one, if you have a preference)... there will be several scrubbings over the weekend, so please check back frequently.  I will post the first bracket to be scrubbed mid-afternoon.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

So you're asking us to actually WORK for our content instead of stealing it?
You've gone too far this time, Benjamin.

I suppose I could just half-ass it and simply wait for everyone else to rip it apart for me.

First attachment is the bracket based on the s-curve, second attachment is after initial scrubbing.  Let me know what violations still exist or better ideas.

Lots of movement with the 5's and 12's to split up conferences and still maintain balance.  Otherwise, everything should be pretty self-explanatory.

Scrubbed version looks good to me. If Iowa and Wisconsin both advance to the Big 10 tourney title game you'd have to move Iowa out of Columbia, but the S-curve would take care of that I assume as Iowa and/or Wisconsin would move up seed lines.

Brother Benjamin:

Sir, just get our beloved Warriors to Jacksonville.

Please! Weather will be in the 70s next week. Rain will be gone by Wednesday.

Victory party at Daytona Beach?

Well, I have some good news for you.......

Jacksonville - Currently hosting 2-pod (Tenn) and 3-pod (Houston).

How does MU get there? If Houston overtakes Texas Tech on the S-Curve, Houston would go to Tulsa and send Texas Tech to Salt Lake City.  That opens up Jacksonville for Florida State (since Purdue is still closer to Hartford), in whose 4-pod MU currently resides.

The two teams were already neck-and-neck on the S-Curve (2.92 vs 2.93 average) so with TTU getting upset in yesterday's quarters and Houston's win over UCONN today, Jacksonville is now looking like a definite possibility.
