Wow, that Demitrius dude is quite the douche. His tweets make ETR look reasonable about #mubb.

I worked some campaign events at a Juneteenth event in the 90’s in Milwaukee. Next year there will be big sales at Macy’ snd Target for it.

It has been celebrated by Americans for decades.
The only "suddenly" aspect is it is now officially a Federal observance.

I was ignorant to Juneteenth until a few years ago as well. I guess I don't understand your question. When I learned what it was about I certainly understood why it was important to recognize. I live in a town of about 50k people...just got back from our Juneteenth celebration...our community is about 10% black...thousands turned out throughout the day...very cool event...even the local police were a part. It was anything but silly.

It's always been massive in the Black community. It's just finally getting recognition from White America

I’m sure you’re right but in the picture posted by MUBB it looks like almost nobody was there.

That is because they're focusing on the MU players. And it is not a picture it is a video.
-
As long as MU players weren’t actively supporting Marxism, it’s all good.

Milwaukee's Juneteenth parade has been going for 50 years. Juneteenth has been big in Milwaukee for a long, long time.

I honestly had no idea what it was until last year. I’m glad I know what it is now.
I saw another picture that looked really crowded.

Whitest post ever.

Same. It was not something I even thought about. It is absolutely something that should be celebrated. I am glad it is a National holiday. Can’t believe it did not get the recognition in my community/upbringing that it deserved (national holiday status) prior to this. It’s really kind of embarrassing.

Sorry that you have no choice but to root against the newest Marxist in town, Shaka Smart. You seemed to really like the hire, too. Oh well!

News - LOL ?
That’s it ? U can’t write out a post and use words ?

I watched ~20 minutes of the parade on TV.
I thought it was kinda sad .. broken streets with litter floating around, dilapidated buildings, and the TV shots where .. there were barely any viewers of the parade.
I mean, sure, that makes a statement and shows people the situation, so that's "good" maybe?
Otherwise, seemed kinda depressing.

I think it depends where they set up the cameras, but it was pretty packed at the end by MLK & Locust.

I guess those are the cracked sidewalks that Al referred to. That is the real world where so many of our wonderful players came from.

If this is such a notable event, why is it for 8 years president Obama never said a single word about it?

I mean, you don’t even make it hard. All from the first page of a simple search.

Anyway the Milwaukee Juneteenth festival has been around 50 years. I’m sorry I didn’t know that.
-
My bad, I just thought that president Obama would have made more of an issue out of it.

Actually slavery did not end on June 19, 1865; but on December 6, 1865 when slavery was abolished with the ratification of the 13th amendment to the constitution.

Juneteenth does NOT celebrate the day slaves were freed.
It celebrates the day slaves KNEW they were freed.

Yes, in Texas; but not in Kentucky and Delaware where institutional slavery was still legal until December 1865.

Ah, since we’ve got a “well actually” guy going for technically correct I guess we should cancel the whole celebration. Pack it up folks, nevermind on the Juneteenth thing.
-
You are technically accurate. Like most holidays (Christmas, Easter, July 4th) the exact dates are not accurate but have become accepted over time.
In the case of Juneteenth, the celebrations originated in Texas, where the date is accurate.

So what's your point? That we shouldn't have this as a holiday because it's not 100% historically accurate?

Yes, and we will also be cancelling Thanksgiving and Christmas.

And the Good Friday-Easter conundrum as well as the 4th of July.

I've got a guess as to why he cares about the precise historical accuracy of the date on which Juneteenth is celebrated but does not for the others.

America didn't actually have independence on July 4, 1776. It wasn't until the British surrender on Oct. 19, 1781. We must fix this!

Does this mean we finally won the War on Christmas? Finally, one we can win (sorry, War on Drugs).

Imagine being born in a stable, in a desert climate during a Roman census and ultimately your birthday is celebrated by snow, a generous fat guy in a sleigh and NBA Hoops all while Mariah Carey sings.

It would take a pretty special guy to be OK with that.

Better that fat guy than with Krampus or Belshnickle

Actually slavery did not end on June 19, 1865; but on December 6, 1865 when slavery was abolished with the ratification of the 13th amendment to the constitution.
But "Juneteenth" rolls off the tongue so much better than "Decemberteenth".

He's cut from the same cloth as rocketbrain. That tells you anything you need to know.
