David Gilmour's solo album was good.  Saw him in Chicago in April.
Been listening to a lot of Brian Wilson lately...Pet Sounds and SMiLE are amazing albums.
Love listening to bootlegs on YouTube.  Early 70s Floyd and Zeppelin were so, so good.

Love Brian Wilson, was just listening to Your Imagination recently.

Fun fact, Steve Dahl co-wrote that song.

Not sure if anyone's a big Bon Iver fan here but when I was out in NYC a couple weeks ago they were playing in Harlem.  I don't really know them well at all, but I know "Skinny Love" and I'm sure if I heard some other stuff of theirs I'd know it.

Anyways, I got out there on Tuesday and was staying with my cousin and her husband.  She told me that she was supposed to have gone to their concert the night before (Monday) but she was sick, so just her husband went with some friends because they know a couple members in the band. Not really sure.  She's from WI, they're a WI band, but her husband is from Northern CA and I'm pretty sure he's the one who originally knew them.

Anyways my last night out there they take me to a friend's apartment.  The guy owns (and is the head chef at) a small plate restaurant in Manhattan and he's cooking dinner for us and 2 other friends of his.  We get there first, then two guys come in, go through introductions blah blah.  One of the two guys says, "Hey, nice sweatshirt," as I was wearing a Packers sweatshirt (we came right from a bar where we were watching the Packers/Seahawks game).  Later on before we start eating some of them start talking music and the two guys talk about their show the night before.  I just figure it's some local guys who play a little music on the side in NYC bars or wherever.  Then someone asks them when they leave and they said they flew out Thursday, so I figure, "Hey, maybe they do travel for their music."  Then it hits me that this must be the guys from Bon Iver, so I ask my cousin (obviously not within hearing distance of them) and sure as sh!t it's their pianist (Sean) and saxophonist (Mike).  Would have never guessed they were in a big time band.  Super down to earth, super cool, both really funny.  One of them was form WI (Sean) and the other was from MN (Mike), so the WI guy and I had a little fun with the Vikings fan.

Nothing But Thieves put out a damn good album.  Lead singer's voice reminds me of Jeff Buckley.

I saw Brian Wilson on tour a couple months back. He and his band, which included Al Jardine, Blondie and Al's son Matt, did a very nice job playing Pet Sounds front to back as well as a dozen other Beach Boys standards.

Brian definitely struggled at times and his voice is flat now, but he put a lot of emotion into the performance. Matt Jardine did a wonderful falsetto and really was the star of the night.

A fun evening in an intimate theater with a legend.

*2017 bump*

Spoon has a new album 'Hot Thoughts'.

It is awesome - like all their albums it is a complete work, vs a bunch of songs, and it took me a few listens to get it.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Getting ahead of myself and 2016, but going to see the Pixes in October with an old MU roommate. I like that band and have never seen them, looking forward to it. Any band that you have always wanted to see but just haven't gotten around to seeing? I always wanted to Johnny Cash, I will probably have to wait a while to see him.

Finally getting to see Queen this summer. Of course, Freddie Mercury won't be performing, but I think Adam Lambert will do a decent job on vocals.
Have some patience, FFS.

I found myself craving information this year, so lots of podcasts and an Audible subscription. I found the podcast Presedential to be a great weekly listen for interesting background on all our presidents, like Tyler's grandson is still alive...thought that was remarkable.

Yes to Presidential.  Similarly, Whistlestop, hosted by John Dickerson.  I'm generally a Podcast addict these days-- cutting back to get back to more reading.

New:  Hamilton, Chance, Migos, Adele

Old:  REM, Prince, Beach Boys (b/c of that John Cusack movie), Johnny Cash, Bruce (went to "The River" concert)

Bruce (went to "The River" concert)

First time I asked my wife out it was to Bruce's 'The River' tour at the MECCA in 1980.  Been together ever since.

I basically listen to Classic Rock.  Lately have been listening to a lot of Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, the Pretenders, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, the Hollies and Johnny Rivers.  My wife listens to (and so I do by being in proximity) to a wide variety of stuff.  The best thing she got me to listen to is "Ode to Billy Joe" by Tom Scott & the LA Express, sung by Patti Smyth (from Scandal back in the day.)  Outstanding version of a song I never particularly cared for much.

Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

The Accidentals.

Lots of good bands in this genre.

Lone Bellow is my favorite, but River Whyless, Oh Hellos, Civil Wars, Mandolin Orange, Chris & Thomas are some of the better ones.
