When will Justin be drafted ? There are only 58 spots in this years draft. Lets see how close Scoop comes to actual.
-
My finger wasn’t working properly, I put him as undrafted I actually meant to make him second round choice between 40 and 49
-
I don’t think he leaves if he wasn’t assured anything less than early second round.
-

Where is not drafted because he is lazy? I didn't vote.
-
Didn't vote either. Who cares? I hope he finds success wherever he is or isn't drafted.

I think you missed the joke

Draft is at 8pm tonight
Polls still open

He and Kur have worked out for teams in the hopes they can get a contract of any sort.
In a week they'll probably know.

Lesssell got fired
-
Pretty sure Crean will use his Association connections to help all of them get da bag, aina?
-
Voted 31-39. Good luck to Justin!
-

We haven't gone through the draft yet, so he can't sign anything here yet. And there is no reason for him to sign oversees now.

they'll get a spot on a summer league team and have a chance to earn a contract. I think that's the only way.
-
Still time to vote
-
Several players ranked below Nustin in the big board got picked not helping his cause
-
I got a bad feeling about this when the Raptors passed on Justin. 🤞
-
Could still work out for the best but this has to be a bit of a disappointment.
-
Have to feel bad for Lewis at this point, especially being in Brooklyn. Let’s hope he gets picked in the last 10.
-
wow tyrese martin picked
-
Yikes bikes.
Some of these guys getting picked before him are head scratching.
-
Trying to figure out what advise he got before the draft. Always thought he should go back to school. Not quick enough to guard a wing and to small to being a power forward. Somebody gave him bad advise.
-
I wanna say Justin got some bad advice, but every single mock had him comfortably in the 40s and his metrics at the combine were pretty good.
Just weird. He will be forsure be playing professional ball next year but with NIL the way it is, he’s gonna be making less money.
-
2 picks left, last pick is Milwaukee’s.
-
Probably shoulda seen this coming after Liddell fell into the 40s.
-
Awkward that he's gonna make 37k in the g league rather than NIL money.
If you're not gonna play in combine, you better be drafted higher than the 50s. He got some bad advice and I feel for him.
-
Didn’t expect this to be Vander Blue 2.0. I hope JL has as good a G League career. What a nightmare for everyone involved.
-
Feel bad for him. Maybe undrafted at this point will work out better like it did for Wes.
-
Awkward that he's gonna make 37k in the g league rather than NIL money.

He will absolutely get a two way and make more 75-275K.
But this is disappointing
-
Massive disappointment. This is Vander Blue 2.0. I mean wtf kind of advice was he getting? Might not have been a good idea to sit out the 5 on 5. His “chilled out” demeanor on the basketball court must have been a huge red flag for all NBA teams. Really no other conclusion can be drawn at this point.
-
Lewis goes undrafted.
-
He will absolutely get a two way and make more 75-275K.
But this is disappointing
Probably woulda made 500k-1m in NIL
-
Wondering what the best spots are for him to consider signing as an UDFA.
If this doesn’t put a chip on his shoulder nothing will.
-
wtf it didnt happen
-
Woof. ESPN has Justin as the second best undrafted player and the best undrafted college player. He has incredible measurables for the NBA, hard to imagine him not getting picked up. You have to wonder if his conversations with the coaching staffs didn't go well.
-
Way more surprising than Vander or Markus.
Vander was an undersized 2 who was a mediocre shooter, Markus was 5’10” and can’t play defense.
Just strange with where the mocks had him
-
Wondering what the best spots are for him to consider signing as an UDFA.
If this doesn’t put a chip on his shoulder nothing will.
The answer is Europe, if we’re being honest.
-
Markus Howard is about to get cut for Collin Gillespie now
-
Probably woulda made 500k-1m in NIL
Could be. I was responding to the part saying he’d make 37K.
-
The answer is Europe, if we’re being honest.
Clearly wasn’t the intent and that option would always be there for him.
Hard to say not coming back wasn’t a mistake.
Something seems amiss.
-
Talk about your all time back fires. Ouch
-
Can he still come back?
-
Can he still come back?
No.
-
Justin signs two way with Chicago.
-
He will absolutely get a two way and make more 75-275K.
But this is disappointing
Either way. Not a great outcome for him. He'd have made more here.
-
Skipping combine games was questionable to say the least.
-
I wanna say Justin got some bad advice, but every single mock had him comfortably in the 40s and his metrics at the combine were pretty good.
Just weird. He will be forsure be playing professional ball next year but with NIL the way it is, he’s gonna be making less money.
None of the mocks account for the fact that 15 teams take flyers on unknown international kids each year, rather than taking a known commodity. It happens every year. I voted undrafted, and unfortunately I was correct.
-
Bulls. Yes.
-
Ends up on the Bulls, so there’s a silver lining
-
I don’t say this to be mean or a jerk, but it’s highly likely the only Bulls jersey Lewis ever wears will say “Windy City” on the front.
-
Straight to a two way contract instead of a summer league invite is somewhat positive.
Bulls may have taken a flyer if they had a second rounder
-

Agree to disagree.

Think so? It seems like guys who sign two-way deals have been getting end of the bench minutes in the NBA. Maybe my perception is off because of Howard and Hauser.
Edit: it’s only one team so small sample size alert. The Warriors have signed 13 players to two way contracts in the past 5 years. 12 of them have played NBA minutes.
-

The Bulls don’t sign him immediately to a 2-way deal if they don’t like him. Doesn’t mean he makes the team obviously but there’s a lot of opportunity there.
And aren’t Billy and Shaka close?

They are. I’m with you. I’d bet he gets a few NBA minutes this year. And he can practice with the NBA team which should be beneficial.

Lots of open roster spots. AKME values length. Like getting a 2nd round pick without having one.
Selfishly thrilled about this. Hope he makes the most of it.
-

I’m not sure if that’s much different whether he plays another year at MU or not.
Once I saw his measurables, I thought he was golden. It seemed like his deficiencies were coachable. The draft is almost 1.5 rounds now with all the stash picks. I don’t think this was a very strong draft, so not sure he would have been a first rounder next year.
-
Trying to figure out what advise he got before the draft. Always thought he should go back to school. Not quick enough to guard a wing and to small to being a power forward. Somebody gave him bad advise.
Maybe the advice was “you can’t really be coached up on quickness or height, so if those are the things you’re being told are holding you back another year in college won’t help. So if you want to go now, then go now.”
Probably woulda made 500k-1m in NIL
From who? He would’ve had to transfer to a blue blood to get that money.
Anyways, if he was signed to a 2 way deal within hours of the draft ending he’ll be on the NBA roster for plenty of games and make some nice coin.
-
Markus Howard is about to get cut for Collin Gillespie now
Markus has a 1.8 million qualifying offer from the Nuggets, so if he signs that, I believe he gets paid.

I think 2-ways are still pretty fluid until further into the season, so I don’t think much of the money is guaranteed yet.
Either way, I think time will tell on how good of a decision this was. There’s no certainty that he goes back to school and improves his draft position. Maybe he was at peace with a worst case scenario 2-way contract with the Bulls.
-
Justin screwed up. Should have stayed another year.
If improvement is going to trend upward linearly and there is no chance of injury, sure.

If that is getting our players $500K-1M, then we're doing this wrong. For that price, Shaka should be landing much, much higher talent than what is on the roster.

This says it’s $500K and Anonymous Eagle has the same info. If true, good for Justin.

It’s no secret I’m good friends with Malik Newman (still to this day). Every player/case is different, that’s for certain. He was supposed to be drafted in the second round, went undrafted, immediately signed a two way with the Lakers, and got released after summer league that same draft year. The theory of “you get to pick where you go when you’re undrafted” is both true & false. Teams call agents as the draft is winding down and give take it or leave it two way offers. A guy will typically get multiple offers for two ways, but this isn’t true free agency.
Malik has bounced around, and ended up getting two ten day contracts with the Cavs (not as a two way). This is while in between playing in Europe/Israel, where he made way more cash. He’s right now without a G League team or summer invite after needing wrist surgery in April.
I hope Lewis’ fate is different, but this is a hard road with tough decisions he’s going down. The Bulls are going to use him as a spare tire, with zero guarantees.
-

Good point.
Going undrafted and getting a 2-way contract isn't much different than getting drafted in the 50s. Those players are either draft-and-stash or 2-way contracts anyway.
Golden State tried to trade or sell 55, and when they couldn't they took a draft-and-stash guy.
The Bulls didn't have a 2nd and got Justin without having to buy a pick.
-
If that is getting our players $500K-1M, then we're doing this wrong. For that price, Shaka should be landing much, much higher talent than what is on the roster.
I don't think Shaka will ever land a player by promising him boatloads of NIL money. I do think he will keep his players from transferring by offering them boatloads of NIL money.
-

Right, it’s just that the $500K isn’t guaranteed, so we won’t really know what kind of coin he’s making until much later.
-

Perhaps but you don’t know what the Bulls actually think of him and how they project him. They don’t sign him minutes after the draft ends if there’s not legitimate interest there.
-
It was only announced like a month ago, calm down sweaty.
So then Justin would not have gotten $500K-$1M next year by staying at MU.
-
The Bulls didn't have a 2nd and got Justin for half the NBA minimum without having to buy a pick.
I hope things work out well for Justin...one of my favorite MU players in recent years. The Bulls got him for a bargain and I hope he exceeds their expectation and finds a permanent spot in the League. Either way, he's going to make $500k+ this year. All in all, not a bad first gig out of college.
-
Right, it’s just that the $500K isn’t guaranteed, so we won’t really know what kind of coin he’s making until much later.
Fair point that I should have acknowledged in my previous post. I hope he holds on to that 2-way. But, then again, a second rounder often doesn't get a guaranteed contract either.
-

It’s not like Justin can’t come back to school and become a dentist that posts wild conspiracy theories on scoop while simultaneously watching The View in fear.
-
That chart above showing our predictions is a real shocker.
-
So then Justin would not have gotten $500K-$1M next year by staying at MU.
I don't know what the numbers would have been but he would have absolutely made money from NIL and I don't think 500k to 1mil is an unreasonable guess.
This does not mean that Justin made a mistake
-
I think time will tell on how good of a decision this was. There’s no certainty that he goes back to school and improves his draft position. Maybe he was at peace with a worst case scenario 2-way contract with the Bulls.
I already think it was a "good" decision because it's what Lewis wanted to do. Nobody here knows what he was thinking. Maybe he simply had enough college basketball and wanted to take the next step, no matter where it would lead him - NBA, two-way, G League, overseas, whatever.
And just as nobody here knows what Justin was thinking when he made his decision, nobody knows if playing another season at Marquette would have helped or hurt him in next year's draft.
-
It’s not like Justin can’t come back to school and become a dentist that posts wild conspiracy theories on scoop while simultaneously watching The View in fear.

Depends on the bulls this year, but it looks like they'll spend into the tax this summer. So they might actually convert Justin's two way into a min contract halfway through next year if he plays mildly well, and if the bulls trade away some guys on their bench.
-

I am a Marquette Basketball fan and want to see our players make It The NBA . Justin got a two way contract and as reported that is equal to half the NBA minimum . So that is good for MU.
I am not familiar with all the current rules , but I believe there is a point in time during the season , that it becomes guaranteed . So he will in effect need to make the cut and stay in the roster somewhere around January
Sam and Juan both did incredibly well in the G League portion of their two ways had their two contracts converted to full NBA minimum , as did Deonte Burton . Hoping this happens for Justin.

The rules surrounding two-way deals have changed since then to be more beneficial towards teams and players. Higher salary, more time allowed in the NBA, able to practice with the NBA team, only two spots per team incentivizing teams to be selective and invest more in those guys' development, etc.

Posted in the other thread an athletic link that basically showed the same enthusiasm by Bulls fans. Justin was not lost to the ether when he didn’t get drafted. The Bulls without a second round draft pick got a big upside player. Hope Justin puts in the work and gets the job done.

I think it was a joke because a only a very few voted not drafted BEFORE the draft was over. A bunch of people voted after the draft.

I made a mistake and should have closed the poll when the draft started. The percent that voted for undrafted free agent before the draft was about 14 percent. I figured the late people would vote there actual pre draft thoughts.
Good vote turnout overall.

You think? LOL people here don't have a clue most of the time ::)
-
Succeeding in college basketball is hard, and coaches scratch and scrape their way to putting a team together. MU catches a break, signs a high level HS player that turns out to be a high level college player who gets bad advice, leaves, and the program suffers.
Of course, no one owes any group, organization, company or team any loyalty, to anyone but themselves. So we got that going for us.
-
I think it was a joke because a only a very few voted not drafted BEFORE the draft was over. A bunch of people voted after the draft.
"Good luck to him, though" is not part of the joke. It is condescending and not needed.
