He said something like...Congrats to the Marquette grad Doc Rivers for doing a great job. It was pretty cool.

I think that is most likely something we all caught but the casual fan probably did not think twice about it. Still nice of Wade to keep pointing out MU every little bit counts

A potential recruit heard and understood the reference.  Marquette coaches will make the historic connection on the recruiting trail.  Nice to see the loyalty from DWade.

Congrats Doc River.

I think Doc Rivers is one of only 3 active coaches who has won an NBA championship.  I can only think of Phil Jackson, Poppovich, and Doc.  The only other recent coaches to have won are Riley (who retired) and Larry Brown (I don't recall seeing him get hired by anyone yet?).  You have to go back to 1995 and Rudy T to find another coach to win one.

The Doc is in some select company!  Congrats!

Meminger (Knicks 73-74), along with Chones and Lee (Lakers 79-80) are a few more MU alums with NBA championship rings.

Buzz could have won the championship with KG Ray and PP!

Hate to say it but I completely agree.  I'm happy for Doc, being a MU guy and all, but let's be real about this.  He's not a great coach.  He was about to get canned last year for winning something like 24 games.  Thank god for free agency...

Well, he was the NBA Coach of the Year with the Magic.......and now he has an NBA Title. It is tough to argue that Doc isn't a good coach.

As for last season --- the Celts as a franchise mailed it in late in hopes of landing Oden or Durant (look at how long Pierce was out last season as just one example, not to mention the spike in mpg for kids and journeymen) -- no reason to sack Doc for doing what the organization wanted at the time.

Now, the previous season  --- well, that's a different discussion entirely.

Not to be picky, but Garnett and Allen were acquired in trades not through free agency.

So is Pat Riley a terrible coach because the Heat sucked this year?  Luckily for him  he has the power to walk away on his own terms and he had the power to push out Van Gundy when he knew the Heat could possibly win it all!

Let's face it -the NBA is a players league!  You can't win if you don't have the horses.  The same is true for college.  Generally, the best teams have the best recruiting classes.  That's why Buzz was hired - Recruiting potential!  Only time will tell if it was a good hire or not.
