JMay or Jae Crowder
« on: February 23, 2010, 10:54:53 AM »
Interesting to think about, but we likely used JMay's scholarship on Jae Crowder.  JMay would have had 3 years of eligibility, Crowder will only have 2.  But, based on what we saw of JMay, and of what we've read about Crowder - is there any reason to think Crowder won't provide just as much if not more than JMay would have next year, and the following?

"I'm not sure Cadougan would fix the problems on this team. I'm not even convinced he would be better for this team than DeWil is."

I have thought the same and while it is clear that in 3 years Jmay would have helped more it seems crowder could step in an provide a more skilled more athletic player immediately than JMAy was.  Jmay was definitely more of a project than we originally figured.  I think next years team is better off with Crowder than JMAy.  Jmay had some bulk but based on the pictures and numbers crowder has some bulk and is not afraid to use it either.

Assuming Crowder is not a strife-master, it is Crowder all the way.  JMay and clan was clearly not happy, so if they stayed it would have started to impact the team.

And on top of everything, Crowder has better hair.

What I found interesting is that in one of the articles about him (maybe a JS article), he said that he expects to play some 2.  Now I know Marquette doesn't exactly play with traditional positions but I find it a little bit uneasy that he sees himself playing more of a guard role.  On the plus side, didn't Lazar come here thinking he was going to be a 2 and then slowly transitioned to a 4 (almost 5 now)?

He did say that he was told he'd be playing some 2/3/4.  Said he felt his biggest asset was his mid-post game, and strength.  As you point out, MU and Buzz specifically doesn't clearly define traditional positions.  Buzz wants guys that can pass, dribble and shoot.  Once we have a quintessential "5-man" obviously he will tend to play a more traditional role, but, my feeling is Buzz covets versatility and athleticism at all positions and feels the more versatility and athleticism you have, the better your chances of winning.
