Mayo coming back? Not so fast
Sophomore guard Todd Mayo, who was declared academically ineligible before the season began, posted Wednesday on his Facebook account that he may is on his way back to rejoining the team:

This might just be your worst entry yet. I'll leave it at that. Quality>Quantity.

Nothing at all about this kids heart and work ethic putting into getting his grades par. Nothing on how Mayo could possibly go to Europe to make a quick buck.
Just an ugly written article in my opinion. >:(
-
Hunt doesn't think finals can be graded early? I always knew my finals grades a day or two after.

Agreed. The hatred of Todd Mayo is really getting ridiculous. Have some class, Mike.
-
His brother already got punched in the balls this week, Mike. Let's try and stop perpetuating low blows to the Mayo family.
-
Yeah, Mike. All those darn facts can ruin a perfectly good feel-good story.
-
Where do you think Hunt is getting his "preconceived notions"? Sounds to me like the coaching staff and maybe even them team telling him that Mayo can be or has been a less than stellar teammate.
Or maybe it's a MJS witchhunt.

First of all, what evidence is there of heart and work ethic? (That would have been an opinion.) Also, what does Europe have to do with it? (More opinion.)

Hmmm, maybe the fact that he has a proven track record of not doing the best at previous academic institutions, and since most people here look at Marquette as a good school academically it would be understandable for one to think "hey, it was difficult for me to get my education and i came from a family that pushed academics as the focal point, it's probably really hard for a student like Mayo given his previous track record"
Also, what does Europe have to do with it? (More opinion.)
Does the word "possibly" give any clue it wasn't a certainty? The point is Todd had options, and did a noble thing for pushing hard to get his academics in order.
I didn't know everything had to be factual here, perhaps we should get rid of all of these apocryphal post about conference alignment?

Seems like an accurate story to me. The little man complex many of you have towards to the badgers and journal sentinel is embarrassing.
-
Have to agree with those who think that this is a pointless article and, frankly, mean-spirited.
-

When I walked out of a final I was pretty sure how I did. Although my major might have had something to do with that but I can relate to his tweet.
-
Hunt is obviously holding a grudge - Todd made him look foolish when he got himself suspended after Mike wrote an article about Mayo getting his stuff together.
-
The one thing that impresses me about Todd Mayo is that he could easily drop out and try to work his way into the NBA through Europe or CBA ball. He obviously has the connections and financial support to do it. The fact that he has stuck with Marquette despite the suspensions and coaching changes makes me a bigger fan. I hope he uses Hunt's negativity as motivation.
-
Hunt wrote an entire article around a one-word text from Buzz.
-
So this article is basically saying Mayo may not have a clue and could be completely unaware of how he is really doing and really could have tanked all his classes? Not so sure of that one Hunty Boy. I know the track record is sketchy at best, but I've got to believe Todd isn't that clueless and delusional.
-
We will all find out Mayo's status in a couple days...

This is silly.

Go back and read that article about Todd getting his stuff together. On a second glance, it wasn't nearly as complimentary as it first appeared.

Agreed. If anything, Mayo being ruled academically ineligible made Hunt appear downright prescient in that story.
Consider the last two sentences of that story:
He says he's buying in now.
We'll see.

We'll see.
Next article: Todd played great tonight, it's too bad he didn't keep up with school. When I asked Buzz about it he texted "yup." In related news the badgers only lost by 21 today and Gosser's injury has everything to do with that. I wish him a speedy recovery. I love his game, work ethic, hard nose in the classroom, and the fact he plays for Madison.
It's just gonna be a compliment followed by a slap in the face...or two.

BINGO
-
That darn Michael Hunt. First he turned Mayo into a guy who couldn't hit a shot during the Big East season. Then he turned Mayo into an immature kid who wouldn't study. Now he has the temerity to take a wait-and-see attitude on Mayo. When, oh when, will Hunt get on Mayo's side and start planning the parade in his honor?
-
The fact that this article was written in response to a facebook post by a college athlete is all I need to know about this story. Wait until facts come out, enough conjecture on this matter.
I'll refrain from judgement until next semester.

Is this the article you're referring to?
http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/174097831.html
Seems even back in October Mike was very hesitant to praise Mayo for sorting things out. The article even ends with "We'll see." Maybe there's another article you are referring to where Mike was more positive on Mayo as a person, but I couldn't seem to find it. Seems more like that from the start Mike hasn't really bought into Mayo as being the best of characters, and has kept that tone in his articles. Now whether he should be injecting so much opinion of one's character into his reporting is another question.
-
Facepalm. This article and thread are both silly and dumb.
Either way, hopefully the kid grows up and realizes a good education is in front of him and also a great opportunity to play some quality ball. Not saying that he will do either of those things but for his sake.

1. Then he should go to class more often.
2. Getting his academics in order were the best of his options. I'm not exactly sure what is "noble" about a college student actually deciding to go to class and studying. It is kind of what they are there to do.

Oh, Sultan, you're just holding a grudge because Michael Hunt kept you from reaching your potential, too!
