Boom.

Discuss.

Thoughts, enjoy the last 4 years of that contract Angels, also reported full no trade clause.

So stupid.

My friend who is a Cardinals fan was angry that the Cards were willing to shell out 10 years for him... He will be happy today.

Good, get the hell out of the NL. Cant wait for 5 years from now when his numbers are down and they still have that contract with a no trade clause.

As a Cards fan, it sucks to lose the best player of the generation, who will possibly end up top 5 all-time, but that's just too many years and too much $$ to shell out for a guy that's going to be 32 in a little over a month (supposedly).

As a Brewer fan I am happy to see him go, but I'd have been happy to see them do a franchise crippling contract.

The dude has identical numbers to paul konerko the last two years...and that's worth $25 million/year?  they will be regretting it in 3 years, if not sooner.

What are you smoking?

Pujols WAR 2011 - 5.1
Konerko WAR 2011 - 3.1

Pujols WAR 2010 - 7.5
Konerko WAR 2012 - 3.9

Pujols is double the player Paul Konerko has ever been.

Not smoking anything. I was talking offensive numbers only.  This is averaged over the last two years:

Konerko: .306 avg, 35 HR, 108 RBI, .391 OBP, .550 Slug

Pujols: .306 avg, 39.5 HR, 108.5 RBI, .390 OBP, .568 Slug

As I said, nearly identical.  Your point on WAR is well taken, as that takes into account defensive performance.  But that will slide, and be irrelevant once they start playing him twice a week at DH.  In his prime, Pujols is absolutely double the player Konerko is.  Right now, not so much, and keep in mind that Konerko is (supposedly) 4 years older than Pujols..

Agreed, defense and league adjustment are accounted for in the WAR. So you are correct as well.

Opens the door for the Brewers to sign Aramis Ramirez since it's unlikely LAAofA will offer up another big contract after Pujols and Wilson's deals.

If I were the brewers, I would go back and put the full court press on Fielder.  I think he really wants to stay, and the division is theirs the next 5 years with pujols gone.

I wouldn't say that. The Cards still have a lot of talent--Holiday, Carpenter, Berkman, Molina and a couple promising young guys in Freese and Craig. Plus, don't forget that they'll also be getting back one of the best pitchers in baseball over the 3 years prior to last year in Wainwright. Use that Pujols money on shoring up the middle IF and grabbing another OF and there's no reason they won't be battling for the division again.

In addition, the Reds are only 1 year removed from a division championship and still have a lot of good ballplayers.

Angels also get CJ Wilson, for a fairly reasonable 15 million/year.  Weaver, Haren and Wilson.  pretty solid.

Good points.  Don't really believe in the Reds because they have no pitching.  Cardinals will be solid, but if Fielder came back, the Brewers would certainly be the favorites over the next few years.

You just blew my mind. Cards fans, be very happy Arte Moreno saved you from yourselves.

ps: think this means that the cards are interested in taking a certain $13 million set-up man off the Brewers hands?

... didn't think so...

Dude, this sets the market for Fielder. And, it starts at $200 mil.

I don't think Fielder is going to get it. Cubs, no. Yankees, no. Marlins, no. Boston, no. Rangers, no. I just don't see it yet.

Nationals.  That's my prediction.  But you're right, the market is tight.  I would not see be shocked to see him back on the brewers next year.
