I was intrigued by the results of the season ticket poll. I was a season ticket holder for 20 years before moving out of state. I am curious as to the reasons why so many are not renewing.
-
It is the only way a season ticket holder can show that they are unhappy and find the product unacceptable.
I’ve seen enough. It’s the best way to show the admin what I think.
-
For me it’s a lot of reasons. New baby and moving away from downtown are probably the biggest. I think the cost is going to jump quite a bit after staying flat and then no fans.
However, I think I could get over those if I had real hope for the team. Getting the motivation to go to FF for an 8 PM Tuesday game is tough if I’m just going to be frustrated.
I also think the University has devalued season tickets. From the points not mattering much anymore to all the deals that are offered throughout they year. With some of the packages, you get all the good games for not much price difference. The seats might even be better.
When I told the person asking if I wanted to put my ticket refund to next year, I told them I wasn’t sure I’d get tickets next year. I was a little surprised there was no follow up question. Granted, I’m in the cheap seats, but if I’m going to get 10 emails to buy a fake ticket for National MU Day, I figured a quick follow up on why I wouldn’t renew would happen.
All that being said, I love Marquette basketball, so might just be blowing steam. When the renewal email comes out, I may pull the trigger. Right now, this is the small way I can protest with my wallet.
-
I made the move two seasons ago and dropped my tickets after 20+ seasons for a variety of reasons.
If MU was winning, (minimally defined as consistently above mediocre) we'd still have season tickets, full stop.
But yes, cost was another reason .. we bought the first season at Fiserv, absorbing the 35% increase, but when it went up big in year 2, that was the end.
Coupled with .. if you wanted to sit in the lower bowl at the Bradley Center, you had to have season tickets and enough points. The Fiserv? You can buy a mini-plan in the lower bowl, good seats, no points, no problem.
Why buy 20 games to see an expensive, yet poor product when you can buy 5?

Because you want to see all 20? I realize that's not the case for everyone but seems like the obvious answer.

No doubt, everyone has their own definition of value. I stopped wanting to see all 20 in person.

And how. Those buy games are awful. Now that they’re all on tv, it’s just not worth it to go.

The fact that "politics of the team" is getting votes says a lot about the demographics of this board.
Shut up and dribble, right guys?

White suburban males with a college degree. I'll leave it at that ;)

The real reason they're not renewing is they spent all their extra cash on Mr. Potato Heads and Dr. Seuss books.

Yeah, but just wait till we sell 'em for huuuuge profits. Then we'll be able to invest in the program again!

surprised you voted that way, kin.
You seem more like a Willy St resident than suburbanite.

I vote for a better society. One that I want to live in where people are more equal and not crappy to each other for no good reason.
But hey, I guess I'm just a better version of the white suburban college educated male.
-
I vote for a better society too; one where we’re civil to each other and not burning down buildings and looting innocent people’s businesses. I’m done with buying tickets until the product on the court improves. Been watching for a long time and can’t recall such coaching ineptitude, including the Deane & Dukiet years. MU Bball is just not fun to watch anymore; and I never thought I’d say that. Reboot and start over.

MLK said that the best way to address rioting was to address the injustice that sparked it. I think I agree.
-
Lots of injustice that’s selectively ignored. Check out the shooting & murder count in Chicago every weekend that gets no attention.
-
Sorry, I don't think that state sponsored killings of Black people are quite the same amount of injustice as murder between rival gangs.
If your argument is that there shouldn't be murders at all, I'm on board. But maybe we can start with the police not killing so many POC.
yeah just lock this.

Political view differences aside, at least your decision to not renew is based on team performance, which I can respect.
I guess a tiny BLM patch is too much to handle for some.
-
I don't feel like "moderating" today. So behave yourselves or scoopcations are in your future.
-
You would probably feel differently about that tiny BLM patch if your business was torched or a loved one was injured or killed as a result of their rioting.
-
I think team performance and Wojo are sort of crossed. If Wojo was winning what people would be canceling because of Wojos bland public persona? I'd guess almost nobody would.
The actual reason for the Wojo votes is that Wojo is not winning so those two shouldn't be separate.
-

Man, I love the off season. Everyone sitting around getting ornery for some good basketball.
Oh, wait, that also describes the last 5 months.
-
I will not be. Growing family makes it harder to make week night games, but in all reality it's the product on the floor. If they were winning, we'd find ways to go. The way they've played the last three years makes it easy to say no to the price tag.

Sounds like somebody slept through 1/6/21.

FWIW, I didn't mean to blow up this thread with arguments about politics. I just think that "team politics" as being the primary reason for some people not renewing is some of the pettiest crap I've ever heard. You're gonna quickly run out of things to support if you keep that stance.

First winner! Enjoy your time off.
-
Question for anyone in the know: How does the mood of the MU fanbase compare with other strong programs that have fallen on tough times: Indiana, Kentucky, Texas (prior to this year), Cuse, etc.?

Wife is a Hoosier fan. They have tired of Miller just as they tired of Crean. I think the only hire that would satisfy them is Brad.

You can support the cause AND oppose the violence at the same time.

Or people are just going to vote for that just to stir the pot o shìt.
-
I did not renew for 2019-20 season and did not regret it. It was a number of things that caused me not to renew and Wojo being the coach was only part of the reason. I have to admit that I had tickets for 25 years plus and took a break when my kids were in hockey and renewed back several years ago. It would take an awful a lot of change to get my commitment again. Too many crappy games and hopefully more time in FL in the years ahead.

What about Scott Drew?
-
He is probably their second choice.

I used to know the Chinese word for the stick that stirs the pot o crap. A friend's Chinese F-I-L calls him by that moniker. He keeps it written on a piece of paper in his wallet

We are renewing but just wanted to see the answers to the Poll.
My Grandfather had season tickets and our Family has had them ever since, so we will Renew. But Am a bottom line person and Marquette with the Money Spent in the Top 7 and Attendance in the Top 10 needs to Win.
-
The breakdown is consistent with the rest of society.
source?
1)when they put ALM on their jerseys or just MU would be fine
-
I would not have renewed my sets of season tickets this upcoming year.
Now, I can’t wait to pick my seats!
The excitement is back!
-
Will be renewing as always and wore my Marquette Sweatshirt to workout today with Pride.
-
White suburban males with a college degree. I'll leave it at that ;)
please explain

now that is some lefty bullish!t. Let me guess...MU class of 2010, or thereabouts?

Not really. If my sink is leaking, I don't cover it in duct tape, I find the cause and fix the source of the problem. When you have an issue to address, the best way to do so is at the source.
-

Which is the lefty bullsh!t? What MLK said or that MLK said it? Cause I can provide the transcripts.

Sounds like somebody slept through 1/6/21.
Sounds like you slept through 2020 when $6-$8 BILLION in property was destroyed, lives ruined, innocent people killed, by your BLM along with antifa. Riots are still going on today in the northwest.
State sponsored killings? OK, 8-10 at most per year unarmed POC are killed by police get all the press while democratic run cities like Chicago is a war zone with POC getting killed every day and BLM is silent
Wow

Something tells me you haven't been to Chicago in years and are just guessing. Stay out of the west side and majority of the south side and you won't see it as a war zone. Your media paints it like it's freaking Syria.

So the west side and parts of the south side are like freaking Syria? If not, why stay out?

It's called street smarts. Every city in the country has areas you'd be better to avoid. Hell it's not even just cities, there's a crap ton of rural america you'd be best to avoid as well. Just generally be a smart person and don't put yourself in dangerous areas.
-

Would a player who supported the police be able to wear PLM (Police lives matter) on their uniform? You can support the police and the cause at the same time, no?
-
This thread is funny.
I legit thought it was about ticket renewal. Not political chest puffing.
Well anyways. I’m renewing per usual. Gonna try and get Brews tickets this year since it sounds like he’s always having a better time than me in the nosebleeds.
-
I had planned to renew even if Wojo returned, but now I’m infinitely more excited about it.
-

Careful. Ziggy doesn't like temper tantrums.
-
Getting back to the title of the thread. We had season tickets a long time and we enjoyed it.
We had a nice set up where a few/some of us would bring different young local inner city minority school kids to games for the life experience. Highly recommend it for locals. (We had a great section)
It kept getting more and more challenging to fly/drive in for games when some of us no longer lived in Milwaukee/Chicago or the Midwest.
So, attending games became more of a here and there thing, instead of every game. (Rising costs became a thing for some.)

...but the team is making a political statement.

So Phillywarrior is right. POC are being killed in those areas of Chicago and other cities and BLM is silent.

Yes? That's objectively true. But where you and Philly warrior are way off is why should BLM make a statement? Their mission is against police brutality and pro equity. It has nothing to do with the inner city violence. Comparatively, it would be like me saying to these anti Asian hate protestors "why aren't you bringing up the Uighur genocide in western China?! You're doing it to yourself too!" It has nothing to do with the cause that they're bringing attention to.
-
Moved from Milwaukee to Madison in the last year, no way I was renewing with Wojo at the helm. Now, I'm back. It will be worth it to get good seats for all the weekend games. I'll try to sell weekdays as much as I can.
I had also thought about just giving a donation to the Blue & Gold fund to show my support for the Shaka decision. Thought better of it, and would rather get some value back in the form of season tickets. Good job Marquette!
-
We had planned to renew our tix, even if Wojo stayed on as coach ! !! We even thought we might be able to get a couple of more rows down closer to the court due to some of you not renewing ! ! ! ;-) But with the Shaka hire, we are even more excited about the upcoming season and future of MU BB ! ! ! 8-)
-
I probably wasn’t going to renew. New baby and just life making it difficult to commit to 15-20 games. Not being excited about the product on the floor kind of pushed it over the edge to maybe just buying a 5 pack of it worked.
Now I’m for sure re-upping. This is the most excitement I’ve had for MU basketball since the last Hauser year.
-
Let's just hope COVID doesn't throw a wrench into next season. Cases here in New Jersey are spiking again.
-
I was not planning to renew last year, but was not sure if I could actually not renew.
After spending a year watching the games on TV, I am not expecting to renew.
Maybe different if I lived in Milwaukee. It is so nice to not have an hour drive home on good roads after a game. I never worried about snow this year.
I rather see the game in person, but I can watch it at home and not have a 100+ mile round trip. No worries about parking or snow.
-
Lol politics of the team was really the third highest response? Woof.
-
J5
I would take Shaka MU program right now.

The trip is pretty easy back to Madison, especially the 8PM weekday starts...
-
Actually was going to not renew next season due to a couple of reasons not Wojo related, but maybe sublimaly so.
Live in western Chicago area and tiring of the two hour, one way rides per game, getting older, getting to fewer and fewer games each year, hating winter/snowy rides.......
But with new hire MAY renew to see the new regime and different approach....
So maybe cancel attitude was also partly Wojo related......
Willing to consider one more year.....
-
I was not going to renew. I will 100% be renewing after the coaching change.
